I get about 21 Mbps down and 1.1 up from Charter and that's the std speed service. Funny thing is that Charter reports my location as Kalamazoo (it's actually Minneapolis) but there isn't any signif dif if I pick a Minnesota server over the Kazoo server for the test.

That's about double what I used to get from Comcast in A^2. It will be interesting to see what Comcast is providing when I move back.

Still plugging along with DSL:

I've been checking into Comcast, but I am concerned with all the negative reviews of it. It's like 10:1 negative to positive.

But help is on the way. I signed up for U-verse and will be getting their 12mb service sometime this week. Incredibly, it will be cheaper than my current "6mb" DSL service.

I would have signed up for 24, but they said that would require a $150 technician visit, and I could not talk them out of it. 12 was the fastest I could sign up for and still install it myself for free.

Hopefully, 12 means something close to 12 -- but I am preparing myself to be disappointed. Even if it still tops out at 3, it will still be cheaper than what I have now.

it's sort of depressing that my home speeds have remained more or less stagnant over six years of using comcast. I keep waiting for them to bring DOCSIS 3.0 to my town, but alas... you'd think I'd be happy with these results but because I do so much with the Internet connection from my house it's really not all that hot. I'd certainly prefer the 50/10 (which I hear is more like 65/15) offered by Comcast in Ann Arbor, a mere 8 miles away...

BTW, these comcast speeds are flawed. They have that power boost that makes it look faster than it is.
Real speed is more like 7 mbps
