I just bought an REO Speedwagon cd for $5 at Wal-Mart. Kind of a "Best Of - All Live" thing. I've been re-living my senior year in h-s, only this time I don't throw up all over my new boom box.

The two albums I have on continuous play right now are;

Who is the face in the mirror? She looks at me with empty eyes. The rosy cheeks that gave her warmth, the spirit that charged her soul are gone. She seems consumed by life. The ashen face so lost. A tear runs down her cheek. I lift my hand and wipe her tears away. TUG- Patt

A Pandora.com station that is playing "Mr. Shiny Cadillackness" by Clutch. Earlier it hit me with "The Lost Art of Keeping A Secret" by Queens of the Stone Age and a tune from a cool band called Year Long Disaster.
Now it's playing "Freya" by The Sword. I guess they've got a new out, but I haven't checked it out yet.@MrPaulOzzOslund Model citizen, zero discipline.

I really haven't listened to the radio in a good week or so. Rarely have the car with the working radio and when I do, the Tigers, Pistons or Wings were playing while I was driving.
It's been a pretty busy last couple of weeks.
The last CD I popped in I think was:
Rattle and Hum - U2
The reason for that selection was me putting a bunch of older CDs I haven't listened to in a long time into the car, so I can enjoy them again. To show you how random the selections are, I also dropped in Purple Rain and a Great White greatest hits album in the car at the same time.
I almost went on an Alice Cooper kick last night (because it had been so long), but it ended up being a really good night of silence instead. So that won't qualify."Only Lions fans can predict a victory when their starting quarterback has a broken arm." -unknown
"I'm going to go the Pistons' game tonight and watch Sheed jack up threes." -unknown

EDIT: Explicit language
This whole band is entirely guilty pleasureville. The videos are pretty good too.
Also the new rammstein song is awesome and I'm pumped for their show next month.TheCaptain: Is it just me or does one of Fielder's sons look like Miguel Cabrera?

I have met Tom Morello a few times at different events - and I really like him - he's very easy to talk to about just about anything, he's a great interview. But Sony used to pay (through independent promoters) radio stations to play RATM - and that always really bothered me about them - but I do have to give them a break, it was before the internet completely exploded. These days you can get just as big with ZERO radio play. Makes me sad as a radio person.

Neutral Milk Hotel, Decembrists, Fleet Foxes are the stuff I've been listening to lately.
If I had a walk up song at Comerica Park it might be Sean Flynn by the Clash.

I don't really know much about Panic but I've been listening to the dead almost exclusively for the past month or so. And I've been listening to it a lot more than I normally listen to music. Esp the Dicks Picks, then I noticed they have these download series on Rhapsody so I put those over the headphones at work...
I've really found myself liking Dicks Picks Volumes 10 and 11 the best.

Drinking Man by George Strait is off of his latest album and is also the new single his record label is releasing, a bold choice I might add. It is in a lot of ways a reflection of my father's life. For me it isn't just another drinking song, it's something that speaks a personal truth...

I found this defense of Prog Rock to be amusing. I'm a long-time Rush fan who is also a big fan of The Clash and other punk. So, I'm into whatever sounds good and moves me. But, you do have to wonder what was up with prog rock and were the 70s were all "about the individual" (which is the kind of thing you'd read in a critique of the 70s found in Newsweek).

I think the big problem with a lot of prog, imo, is they seem to think that musicianship and music are synonymous. I like some prog, and I respect the musicianship, but sometimes it's way too overboard (ie. ELP).

I played in a couple of bands with people who wrote some insanely intense progressive riffs. While it did increase my dexterity and speed of play, some of it lacked a certain "feel" that some of the four chord songs had.
At the end of the day, music is about what sounds good and not what is difficult to play. On one hand I love Black Flag and the other I love Rush and King's X. However when I listen to Dream Theater and Yngwie Malmsteem my soul grows black and cold.
