O what coulda been..... I'd like the Tigers to go draft heavy with position players this year and stray from the Power arm philosophy.... I don't think it'll happen, but it'd be nice to get some fielding talent in here. Last year we addressed the catching situation, I'd like to see a future SS or OF'r drafted this year. We seriously lack depth and talent in the field.

I think we hope that every year...but DD's philosophy never changes !!
...or better yet, David Chadd's and Scott Plies's philosophies !

Not only #1, but also Victor Roache at #10. Imagine their system with those two guys...

Did the Tigers just lose their #1 pick by signing Fielder?

I pray now more then ever that they take high end guys early in the draft. Rounds 2-5 they should go after high impact/high ceiling players and pay over slot. With the new CBA, they will be penalized in the later rounds, but giving up another 1st rounder really hurts them. They just improved much getting a major league talent, but their farm system just took another hit with this signing. I really hope they spend a lot of money on a few high end talents that slide due to money demands.

I have always loved the baseball draft but all thses restrictions and the capping of spending and limitations are making me rue the draft and the excitement is being wrung out....I'm afraid that it will go back to the early days of the draft , when there were so many players that went un-signed and draft choices were wasted. Very dissappointed in the controlling by Selig !
-
The problem is, with the new CBA those high end guys will more likely go high up in the draft. There will be fewer cases of unsignability, it won't pay a player to go later in the draft anymore. They will have to play the cards they are dealt with...last year's draft might end up pretty decent. I like Jason King.

It will be interesting to see how many teams end up having to Forfeit their 1st rounder for next season. I would say the over/under is 2 for this season.

Is it just me or is this the least excitement before a draft ver? Is it the supposed weak prospect "crop" ? The lack of success the Tigers themselves are having or the fact that they have such few dollars and so late a first choice ? Still, this is a draft I've always enjoyed, I do hope it isn't spoiled !

I had forgotten about it until it was mentioned on MLB Tonight or something a day or two ago. So I would concur about a lack of excitement this year.

Weak prospects and we have $2.1 million to spend on our first 10 picks! Might as well offer them a stick of bubble gum to sign with us.....

I've heard that this is one of the weakest Drafts in recent memory so I'm not too upset with not having a pick in the top 90 picks or so.
Hopefully the organization did their homework and hits on a few guys specifically some hitters.Adopt-A-Lion: Calvin Johnson - Broke Jerry Rice's single season receiving record

Mark had posted on his Blog last Thursday that Correa was moving up as a Darkhorse to Houston behind Buxton and Appel, but that they liked his Bat.
But wait! One more player has emerged late according to some sources. Puerto Rican shortstop Carlos Correa has entered the fray and could offer another option for the Astros.
“I’ve heard some of their guys really like the bat,” said an AL crosschecker. “I don’t blame them. He’s really good. I’m not sure he’s 1-1 material, but in this draft, they could at least make the case.”
With Correa on the periphery and both Buxton and Appel in a heated battle to go number one overall, it may not be until just hours before the draft before word starts to leak out about which direction the Astros are heading.VT B.R.B. "We only part to meet again"

It will be interesting to see how many of the top 15 players end up with a good chunk of Minor Leagues this season now with the signing deadline moved up almost a month.

Apparently sign ability is the reason Appel is slipping a little. Having Boras as an agent will do that...
