Thanks Mark. How much do you like Lindor out of Montverde FL? I'm going to be living on Montverde's campus next year. I'm kicking myself because I'm going to miss this kid by a year. Anyways, thoughts on him?

Any chance Lindor sees FSU campus???
Know its unlikely, but If JD made it there hopefully he can sneak in somehow too. Hope the Pirates or Royals take him and get cheap2010 AAL Louis Delmas - 84 tackles 2 sacks 2 FF - Pro Bowl Alternate
2010 AAW Johan Franzen (Mule) - 76 games 28 goals 27 assists +5
2011 AAT Jhonny Peralta .324/.359/.500 1 HR 4 RBI

Love Lindor. He's a mid-1st rounder for me, and one of the few HS shortstops that will actually stay their long term and have a good glove. I wonder how much he will actually hit though.
I don't see any chance that he steps foot on FSU's campus in the fall.

Any chance Gilmartin at FSU gets drafted high enough where he considers not coming back (top few rounds or so
This year he is 7-1 with a 1.48 era 87 k/14 bb in 79 ip and a .180 baa2010 AAL Louis Delmas - 84 tackles 2 sacks 2 FF - Pro Bowl Alternate

Agreed. I don't think there's any chance Gilmartin returns to FSU next year.

Any more late bloomers this year Mark? And where's OU98's list of of top prospect stats? I knew we were missing something this year.

Also Mark, each year you've declared your pick a few days before the draft. Any guess who we are looking at when we finally pick?

I'm thinking that either Matt Purke or Josh Bell will fall to the Tigers, and they will readily take either player (and sign them for a boatload of cash).

Wouldn't consider myself smarter than you by any means, but I enjoy chatter.
I echo the hopeful thoughts about Bell and Purke, although I figure at least one of them gets snapped up in the supplemental round.
After that, I'm basically just looking at kids who played in the Northwoods League last summer. I have no insight whatsoever as to what the Tigers are thinking, but they always seem to value production in that league...someone like Mikel Alvarez, Drew Heithoff, or Harold Riggins.

"So why would he be on the board at #33 (or #37)? A couple of reasons. First of all, Bell has sent a letter to the MLB Scouting Bureau, telling teams not to draft him because he intends to go to the University of Texas.
Secondly, and more importantly, is money. The bonus Bell wants to forego his UT scholarship is reportedly astronomical -- Keith Law says in a chat session today that he's hearing Detroit and Boston as the teams with the most interest in Bell, with rumors of a $6 million deal with Detroit being in play. And Bell is a Boras client, which means that negotiations will be difficult and protracted."
Woah.

If Purke fell to us, I think I'd literally pee myself. I'm gonna go put on some huggies just incase.

Josh Bell seems like the perfect pick for the Tigers if he's on the board at their spot.

Purke falling to us sounds way to good to be true...but Castellanos had no business being there when the Tigers were up last year. But watching him in the CWS last year, I thought for sure he'd be up on the board pretty high. But after hearing his story with the Rangers, I imagine it will take a lot of cash to reel him in. So we'll see.
I got a chance to see Alvarez play against the Bombers in the Northwoods League. Looked pretty solid up the middle and had nice short swing. I would not mind the Tigers building their infield depth at all.AAT: 2012~Rob Brantly 2011~Daniel Fields 2010~Alden Carrithers

Kevin Goldstein talked a bit about Bell and the Tigers in his latest chat:
Biff (MI): Have you heard any of these rumors re: Josh Bell and the Tigers?
Kevin Goldstein: I have, and they seem real. The question is will Bell still be around when the Tigers pick.
Chris (Michigan): Do the bonus demands of Fisher and Nimmo give them a shot to fall to the Tigers?
Kevin Goldstein: Fisher could, but I think someone will pop Nimmo earlier.

By the way, I'm not a Matt Purke fan at all, especially with the cloud hanging over him. No way should the Tigers take him.

I'd agree with you if I thought they'd take the same amount they'd spend on him and put it towards the rest of their draft. Instead though, if there isn't a high upside guy that they fall head over stupid for, I think they're dumb enough to select a class filled with hard throwing relievers, organizational soldiers, and the occasional nepotism pick (hello Ryan and Cody, thank God Alex here is related to a guy we know so at least we'll get a catcher out of this mess. Too bad Jim's kid is gonna confuse the crap out of us in a few years).
So with a guy like Purke being in the picture, it's fine with me if Tigers take a ton of chips and bet them on black. Sure more likely than not they bust, but at least there's an upside payout to dream upon, and the alternative is taking that money home to your insecure spouse who will just waste it on some sort of marginal free agent acquisition that will be exciting for a little while but quickly end up being mundane and useless.

Agree with this. Despite the baggage, I'd be thrilled if Purke fell to us.

Purke was pretty nasty when I watched him pitch in the CWS. I'd be thrilled if he fell to us. All pitchers get hurt at one time or another. Doesn't concern me much.

I get the feeling that the Tiger draft is going to be like the year we drafted Ryan Perry and signability is going to be a key.....With the report from MLB about the debt problems, it seems logical...but my hope is that Mr. Illitch will be anything but logical !

I think it's time we change it to the Avila draft.

So is this the thread to follow for the actual draft, or will there be another on here somewhere?

I saw Colin Kaline mentioned in a local draft column, but isn't he still just going into his senior year at FSC?
