Delmon Young Won't Shutup
He's such a smart kid...
http://www.sptimes.com/2006/07/28/Ra...go_deal_.shtml
MINOR MATTERS: In a USA Today article, top prospect Delmon Young questioned why he, B.J. Upton and Elijah Dukes have not yet been called up. "They're what, 30 games out of first place?" Young said. "They think we're going to mess up their clubhouse chemistry. B.J. should be up there. What are they waiting for? They always have excuses." Young then said he was just venting and "we're just employees here." ... Young, after two homers Wednesday, is hitting .346. ... Kevin Witt hit his 29th homer Thursday and has 81 RBIs. ... Josh Hamilton is hitting .271 through 14 games of his comeback at Class A Hudson Valley. ... In his first 31 pro games, top draft pick Evan Longoria has a .385 average, 12 homers and 34 RBIs.2011 Adopted Tiger - Emmanuel Del Orbe

I have to agree with him... the Rays are silly.

They probably haven't been called up in order to keep their MLB "clock" from starting.

Whether he's right or wrong, you don't call out your franchise before you even get called up... he's an idiot.

I disagree. If your employer treats you like trash, are you just going to sit there and take it?

Upton's clock has already started. He's learning 3rd base and hasn't been called up because he's not played enough at that position. Young and Dukes haven't been called up because they have spent a good part of the season suspended. How do you call reward someone by calling them up and starting their clock in the same season that person chucks a bat at an umpire?
I think Young will be called up in September, when it does not count toward service time. I don't know or care about Dukes. I think Dukes is just a thug and shouldn't be in the game at all.TheCaptain: Is it just me or does one of Fielder's sons look like Miguel Cabrera?

and on top of that, consider the source...he should be on his best possible behavior, but nope, he just keeps showing what a head case he is

I disagree that a difference of opinion on a pure business decisions (when the arbitration/free agent clock starts) arises to the level of treating an employee like "trash." Recall that Tampa Bay has already paid him a large signing bonus.

I don't think having them sent to Tampa would do any good, they need pitching more then Young and Upton, with the acception of Kazmir who I believe will be missing a start due to a sore shoulder is the only pitcher they have. I think pitching is a priority if Tampa ever wants to compete in the AL East.

Holding a deserving prospect back is treating them like trash for a number of reasons.

You really think he is being treated like trash? He is making a ton of money and developing his game in AAA. Perhaps he should shut up and just play. I'm sure the Rays want to see him show some maturity before they bring him up so he doesn't do anything stupid up there.

At the present moment Young deserves to stay in AAA, but the history is there for Young to have a legitimate reason to be disgruntled.

He got paid a 5.4 million bonus, made a jerk out of himself in the 2004 Arizona Fall League, insulting everyone in sight, complained in public last year, and came close to doing serious bodily harm to an umpire this year. (By the way, couldn't we call an umpire a "co-worker"?) And the Rays are treating him like trash? He needs defending, all right; by an attorney.

I have said on the TB board numerous times that one of the best things for Young might be for them to call him up so that he can be humbled by real talent. We'll see.

He had a .303 OBP last year in AAA. Why does he deserve to be called up? People have a lot of sympathy for these Tampa Bay players that isn't deserved. Same for Upton, if he wants to get called up he should learn to play defense and not have his hitting numbers go from great to mediocre while he bitches

True, the call-up is inevitable, and will be entertaining, for sure. I'm just thankful we have to deal with guys like Granderson, Verlander, and Maybin.

Right, and Young still hasn't learned much patience at the plate, with an almost 3:1 strikeout to walk ratio. Upton k's a ton and also isn't hitting for great average or power, Dukes to me appears to be the most MLB ready numbers wise, but he's got huge mental issues, plus where would u put him? The Devil Rays already have a decent outfield, what they need is pitching. Promoting these guys does not help their team out in the slightest bit.

They need help in RF badly. If there wasn't all the issues surrounding Young or Dukes one or both would be up by now.

Young is hitting .350 (1st in the IL) with an .898 OPS (5th in IL) as a 20 freakin' year old. And, the last seven games, he has a 4/0 BB/K ratio. The kid is far better than any of the hot trash Tampa currently has in RF, I'd be disgruntled too knowing I could be helping the team but instead, bums like Damon Hollins and Greg Norton get ABs in his place.

You gotta be kidding me, what "history" exists for Young to be disgruntled? Is it the fact that the Rays made him the #1 pick in the draft? Is it the fact that they paid him $5.4 million before he even stepped on the field? Is the fact that they backed him over the multiple times that he made a complete *** of himself? Is it the fact that even as committed one of the stupidest acts in recent memory they still stood behind him?

Ummm... Well, I might do something, if I felt it wasn't fair, but I probably WOULDN'T AIR MY GRIEVANCES OUT IN THE FREAKIN' USA TODAY BEFORE I HAD ACTUALLY DONE SOMETHING THAT MATTERED FOR THE COMPANY.

I don't think you can compare MLB to the typical workplace (even Congress acknowledges this with its anti-trust exemption). The culture of MLB is still pretty traditional. It's seemingly not as strict as it was a couple of decades ago, but there are still a lot of unwritten laws, codes and mores that a kid like Delmon Young would do well to plug into.
One of those is you keep your fricking pie hole shut until you earn your stripes. A couple of decent minor league seasons doesn't earn you the right to run your mouth about the big club, particularly when you've been suspended for a good chunk of the year.
Play hard, listen to your coaches and keep your mouth shut...you'll be in Tampa in no time.

So Greg Norton's suckiness doesn't just grind the fans, it gets the players waiting in the minors cheesed off too.

He was also suspended for 50 games this year, meanwhile Dukes was suspended for fighting with teammates, and Upton was arrested on a DUI.
My sympathy for them is immense.Kobernoooooous
