    Default 2013 Liga Paralela

Sorry to be so late in starting this thread, but since the Tigers have reached the finals in the playoffs, I just couldn't put it off any longer. The Tigers swept through the semi-finals, beating LaGuaira 4-3 in both games. Caracas, the #1 seed likewise swept, so a best of three finale should begin on Thursday.

The mind-numbingly stupid and pathetic part of all this is that the stupid playoff procedures that are so common in all sports now were very much in evidence. The Liga Paralela has two divisions: Division A with 8 teams, and Division B with 9 teams. The six best teams were all in Division A, while Detroit with a 25-22 record won Division B. So the playoffs included the top 2 teams in each division: The best team (Caracas, 31-14) against the 8th best team (Tampa, 22-24), and the 2nd best team (LaGuaira, 32-14) against the 7th best team (Detroit, 25-22).

Kudos to the Tigers for beating a much better team, but the whole thing is ridiculous. In a sane world they never would have made the playoffs.

    More to follow (I hope).

Detroit Falls in the First of the Finals
    By Kimberlin Correa, Vz. Correspondent

The Tigers could not contain the Leone bats, which stung late in the game by winning 7-0 and look like great candidates for the title in the Liga Paralela of the Winter League baseball.

Anthony Castro opened the action for Detroit and was welcomed with two runs in the final part of the first inning. Castro, only threw three complete innings, allowing five hits and four runs; all earned. For the relay, he was followed by Angel Vasquez who allowed two runs noted between the fourth and sixth inning. Williams Moreno and Junior Camaripano entered to hold the score board but the Lions scored a run in the seventh.
On offense, lead "the Victor". Both, Cortez and Padron, connected pair of singles, then a Harold Castro double in the eighth inning where the Tigers seemed to threaten shipments against Victor Larez, who plays in this series in front of the dugout .

Tomorrow ( Friday) the series moves to Tronocero complex that serves as headquarters of the Tigers in population Guacara , Valencia, Vz.

    By Kemberlin Correa, Vz. Correspondent

The Tigers could not find a win in two games against the branch team in Leones del Caracas; Development League of Venezuelan Winter baseball.

The Tigers were defeated 12-4 on Friday at its headquarters, the sports complex Lorenzo Mendoza of Tronconero, Guacara. Despite starting up on the scoreboard with four runs in the fifth inning thanks to a two-run single of Victor Cortez, an RBI double by Victor Padron; another single by Jose Zambrano, the Tigers could not hold the lead and in the sixth chapter were victims of a grand slam before Anderson Verastegui would open the gap triumph for Caracas.
The visitors relied on the defensive errors of Detroit, who came to add up to four errors. In the eighth inning, Johan Belisario left battered by the Caraquista offense that produced five touchdowns to seal the win in Tronconero that gave them the first title in the development program since 2005. For Detroit the highlight was the offensive Victor Padron 3-1 with double and two RBIs.
