You can't just stop running the ball. After taking a shot 50 yards down field, it's a good idea to call a run to see if you loosened up the defense.

I believe the Lions cannot think that conventionally. They have no running game. Running the ball in predictable situations is tantamount to kneeling. Of course they need to run the ball. But the only effective running play they've had all game was running out of a shotgun. You can use the pass to set up the run. To be effective, the Lions need to be unconventional.

They did use the pass to set up the run by throwing deep on 1st down.

They took a chance with Calvin in man coverage. I dont consider that to be "setting up the run." The book says run after that. The Lions can't go by the book if they want to win.
