According to this, the Marlins are entertaining offers for Giancarlo Stanton. It really was only a matter of time, wasn't it?
This is one fine day to be nude.

WEDNESDAY: Though there’s lots of interest in Stanton, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports hears from sources who all but rule out a trade (Twitter link). One person told Rosenthal chances of a deal are “as close to zero as they can be.”

Has Danny Worth ever played left? I just can't shake the bad feeling that a Dirks/Worth platoon is Leyland's plan B....

and Austin Jackson isn't Willie Mays...I'd make that trade straight up every day and twice on sundays...unfortunately MIami wouldn't.

Why the hell would they trade Stanton NOW? He is dirt cheap right now. Isn't that what they want? I don't understand what the hell they are doing down there. A-hole owners. How the hell does that team have any fans?
What bugs me further is how the Major League Owners want nothing to do with Mark Cuban who would NEVER screw his team's fans over. What is this league saying - they'd prefer these con men over someone like Cuban who may be a bit loud and colorful, but would do whatever he could get away with to win. Isn't that what you want?
Okay, enough with that rant. I'd ask the Marlins "what do you want?". If they said Nick C, Avi Garcia and Rick Porcello............DONE. Remember how some of us freaked over giving up Miller and Maybin? Stanton-Jackson-Hunter with Dirks on the bench. Are you kidding me? And Stanton would be relatively cheap the next 3 years. Do it. Go for it. 2013 & 2014 are all that matters. Beyond that, I don't care right now.AAT: VICTOR MARTINEZ

The league would prefer player salaries to be depressed as much as possible, and the more buyers there are on the market for a player's services -> higher player salaries. Also, the more powerful a team is in a division, the more their competitors have to spend to keep up with the Jones...

Kyle Seager is a nice player, and a bit of a rarity in that he doessn't seems to have glaring weaknesses, despite the fact that he also doesn't seem to excel at anything either. He might be a better fit for 2b.

An interesting idea.
In his MLB career, Worth has hit lefties: 0.273 / 0.346 / 0.347
In his MLB career, Dirks has hit lefties: 0.288 / 0.345 / 0.442
So Dirks hits lefties with more power, but the rest is more or less equal. So the questions, in my mind, are:
a. Is Worth enough of an defensive upgrade over Omar at 2nd paired with Omar in left relative to Dirks to make up for a 100 points of slugging, and
b. Is it better to just leave Dirks in against lefties for developmental purposes until he demonstrates he can't OPS .750 or better against lefties?
I suspect the answer to a. is no and b. is yes, so I doubt the Tigers would pursue it. But I like the thinking outside of the box.

Worth is a mediocre defender and a poor hitter...same with Santiago at this point. Throw in Kobernus and the backup IF options are very poor IMHO.

My vote is to not platoon Dirks in LF. It's just that the Tigers seem dead set on having a RH option available. So I guess they can continue to look for a RH OF or maybe a better backup 2nd base option to make it worth having Infante in LF. Really though I think Dirks will be just fine full time in LF.

Dirks has 114 career PAs against lefties.
I mean it is nice that he had success so far, but I think it's far too premature to rely on him in that role.
It's rare for marginal lefty hitters to hit well against lefty pitchers. I think the best course of action is to follow that trend and limit his PAs against LHP.

If Dirks plays everyday, 162 games, just how many ABs would he have vs. lefthanded pitching? Maybe 100-150? Signing a platoon player for big bucks for 100 ABs doesn't seem like a priority.

Probably more like double that. Figure 550-600 PAs, and maybe 35% of pitches are thrown by lefties.

Really?
Boesch career .259/.315/.414/.729
Seager career .259/.315/.412/.727
Yeah, real joke.
Tigers need a backup infielder. Seager can play all 2b/SS/3b. Better option than Worth, Santiago, Kobernus or Perez.
Seager's a solid ballplayer, that has shown flashes of really good play. Boesch has too. To write off Boesch forever is kind of ridiculous at his age. He needs to fix some things, sure, but he is far too young with too much natural ability to write off. He has power, he does have some value....just not for the Tigers who don't need yet another left-handed hitting OF.Last edited by Motor City Sonics; 01-05-2013 at 10:07 PM.
