Will the Tigers pick someone? Indications are there is at least 1 player they want.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Detroit Tigers will pick 20th on Thursday morning in the Rule 5 draft. Or they might not.

But they hope they will.

"We are hopeful that we can draft," Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski said Wednesday afternoon. "We have a player or two in mind that if we can draft we will. So you know, if we do not draft it's because a player that we were seeking has been drafted."

Really fast 2B who I assume has value defensively because he can't hit. He turns 25 in June.

Stole 42 bases in just 82 games last year.

A minor league FA signing last year.

Lobstein gives up a Porcello-like amount of hits, but struck out 8.1/9 last year which is decent for a 22 yr old in AA.

I don't really understand the Lobstein addition when seemingly Downs and Below should both be ahead of him for a roster spot.

Kobernus' defense and speed are appealing - if he's going to stick, perhaps they've found a deal for Santiago.

It seems like there were some upside outfielders (Hood, Smith) worth a look for the Tigers, but perhaps not since no one selected them.

No, I was referring to the fact that he was listed as a right handed pitcher, but referred to as a lefty in the summary. the rhp part was incorrect.

If Kobernus is a good enough glove man in the middle infield to be a defensive replacement and be a pinch runner off the bench for the Tigers, I would be pretty happy with that.

Don't know if playing OF adds significantly to his utility unless it is thought he can back up CF.
