IdahoBert will not do game threads in 2013

From Boise, Idaho
It's IdahoBert signing off
(well, not really)
Greetings my friends!
I posted my first game thread on August 11, 2004 because no one else had yet done it.
Well, that's what I thought until I checked and saw that it was a Wednesday game and
that there was plenty of time for someone else to do it. I guess the truth is that I just
wanted the attention. Since then I have posted roughly 1021 game threads I and think
I have just about got all the attention I can handle. I have always enjoyed the creative
expression the game thread afforded me and providing fellow fans a place to hang out
and follow the Tigers in real time with others. I have recently started a new job that has
the potential to make me very happy and I know I just can't put as much energy into it
as I have in the past. Really, all you need is a headline and you can discuss the game.
I don't really want to go to the trouble of naming or soliciting an heir apparent. I don't
think that it is necessary. It's up to you to decide. Maybe people could volunteer to do it
for a month or so, or a couple weeks? It's up to you to decide. You are grownups.
I would also like to thank JayVee and tigerbomb13 for the time they spent doing game
threads, and especially Yoda who was at the helm on when we lost our dear brother Brian.
I will always remember the grace and dignity with which Yoda handled this tragedy.
I love you people. Rock on! A new season will soon be upon us! I will still be here enough
to ban a few of you who get out of line, so don't bemoan my passing. I'm not dead yet.

Congrats on finally landing that gig at Hooters. Ironically, I just went from working about 60 hours a week to 35ish. You're supposed to work less when you get older!! I do wish you the best though! Your threads will be dearly missed.

Bert will always be a brother at the far beautiful end of the country. I have felt close to a few folks here over the years and they know who they are. Bert is right there at the top of the list. You will continue to contribute beyond the norm I'm sure regardless of the game thread poster. Many, many thanks my friend.

Heh. I'm actually considering taking it back up again. I miss having to dig through tons of photos each week. But half the board probably has me on ignore.

Thanks Bert, to you specifically, but to all the morons who've taken on the chore of regular GDTs. On to 2013!

I have only one word to say.
THANKS!

Good work Bert.
What is the new gig?
I nominate Yoda. Half the board has you on ignore, yes, but that's the half that shouldn't be posting in GDTs anyhow."I can't say I'm pleased to see you and warn you I may have to do something about it." Knut Hamsun

Many thanks for the game threads, Bert. I don't participate in them much, but it's a comfort knowing they're there.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. I really do appreciate it. Thanks Roger, too, I feel the same way about you.
If Yoda wants it he can have it. I trust him to honor the tradition and to serve the board. It's a labor of love.

Whoa.. you had me worried for a sec. We had something similar to this on our Tigers e-mail list and the person I believe it was Paul Colbert had terminal cancer. He ultimately passed away during the season right before the Allstar break a couple seasons ago. Glad you are A-OK Bert!

Sorry to see you leave Bert, I haven't been here as long as other people but I've appreciated your threads for the 3 seasons I've been here. I've been to other GDT at other forums and none compare to yours. Good luck in everything you do. If somebody could follow in Berts steps I think Yoda could, so I'd second the nomination for him.

Bert, you have done great work on the game threads for years. Your photos and sayings in the opening posts never failed to entertain. I am glad you have found a new job that you like though.

I got to do the game threads for the '07 and '08 seasons (5-25-08: Minnesota Twins (Perkins) @ Detroit Tigers (Verlander), 1:05) and am anxious to get back to work! Bert is a tough act to follow but I'll try my best!
So Bert, you know this means you'll have more time to participate in game threads.

Great news about the new gig Bert. Too bad the game threads have to go but there are only so many hours. On the bright side, giving up the game threads will mean that in what free time you do have, you can focus on Apartment 3G.

Congrats on the new gig, Bert.
I don't participate in game threads much, but do look forward to seeing them pop up for the next game and seeing the pictures, quotes, and pregame banter. Must be less than 100 days remaining until we see that first game thread against Florida Southern.

Only been here a couple of years and lurk more than I contribute, but your threads were a staple of my spring/summer browsing routine. Thank you for all the work you put in, you've been an absolute positive to this forum and one of the reasons to visit during the seasons even when all hope was lost for the Tigers.
