I wonder if the A's pick him up? They are good for our leftovers and don't put any emphasis on hitting.

So there goes my theory that the Tigers might keep Raburn around to platoon against LHP for Dirks if nothing better could be found. I guess the Tigers figured Raburn's previous salary of $2.1M could be better spent getting an upgrade on the free agent market right now....

No Inge, Raburn, Delmon, Valverde, or Kelly. Addition by subtraction if I've ever seen it.

I wouldn't be surprised if we ended up signing Raburn to a minor league deal with ST invite. After 2012, I don't think he's going to get a better offer than that from anyone else. And this allows us to give him an appropriate salary, if he makes the team.

I actually didn't think Kelly was bad in his role. And losing your backup catcher is not the end of the world, but Laird was excellent in his role. Raburn, Delmon, and Valverde, yeah I agree. I wonder what will they do with Boesch. Also, as an aside, I wonder if the team hasn't made the playoffs and seen the collapse I'd Valverde in real time, if maybe he would be back.

No more Inge, Raburn, or Young. Who are we supposed to hate on now???

Ryan Raburn should be congratulated – not booed – for his run as a Tiger. Valuable piece during several seasons.

Just got off the phone with Dombrowski, who said #Tigers were looking to trade Raburn. I feel for the guy. His offensive production falling off the cliff was probably more frustrating to him than it was for us. That said, it was a move that needed to be made.

he'll end up somewhere like KC or Minny and hit .280-25-90 next year playing everyday
Put me on record. Prince Fielder will still OPS 850+ in years 7-8-9 of this contract. (sucks that my signature has to stay this for 7 years now)

I expect he'll see plenty of attention as a FA. Coming off a disasterous season, it's hard to pay him around $2MM. Now that a team can sign him to a minor league deal with a much lower salary if he makes the major league team, he is a much more interesting commodity.

I believe that Raburn marks the end of the Randy Smith era of players. I think he was the last player drafted by Smith that was still in the organization.
Even though Infante and Santiago were both Smith era international signings, they were both re-acquired by DD.Blessed be the LORD my strength, which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight; my goodness, and my fortress; my high tower, and my deliverer; my shield, and he in whom I trust; who subdueth my people under me. -- Psalm 144:1-2

I kind of agree. I don't think it is out of the realm of possibility that he doesn't find another offer elsewhere and we see him in Lakeland in March, especially if the Tigers cannot find a suitable right handed hitting OF to platoon with Dirks. He had a horrible 2012, but I don't think he's done quite yet as a decent bench/platoon OF.

Its funny, if we didn't know his name, but heard that we could pick up a guy who has hit .256/.311/.430 over the last 5 years with plus splits against lefties and position versatility, we'd probably be all about signing him. Oh well, Raburn was terrible last year, he might very well be done.

I agree. The reality is, the Tigers made the right call on Raburn. At $2.1 million, or even the max allowable salary decrease of 20% ($1.68 million), that is too much money for a fringy back-up coming off a horrible year.
That said, he is the exact kind of guy we should be looking at to platoon with Dirks. A RHB that hits LHP and who isn't a disaster in the field. On a minor league deal with a STI, he would be the ideal candidate. Unfortunately, because he's not coming from outside the organization, the peanut gallery has already written him off. Maybe rightfully so, but on a minor league deal, there isn't much to lose. We should bring in a couple of these kind of guys to compete during ST. I don't mind if Raburn is part of that mix.Blessed be the LORD my strength, which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight; my goodness, and my fortress; my high tower, and my deliverer; my shield, and he in whom I trust; who subdueth my people under me. -- Psalm 144:1-2

I still want Casper back for that platoon role. I can't imagine it would be hard to pull off.
