I guess I am in the minority group, I think Ichiros NYY numbers were more indicative of the player he can still be. I put merit in the attitude of the player relative to success.
That being said, I wouldn't sign him. I just think he can still produce above a .700-.750 OPS. His numbers were a bit inflated by Yankee Stadium, but it was obvious he was seeing the ball much better after the trade.

Nobody said it did. I'm not just discussing batting average, I'm discussing his entire value at the plate.
Even if you do only include "at-bats", 170 hits isn't that many when you consider the fact that he doesn't hit for power, he rarely ever gets on base when he doesn't get a hit, and when he does get a hit the baserunners are hardly ever able to advance more than one bease because most of his hits are infield singles and weak bloops in front of the outfielders. Don't just believe what ESPN tells you when they go on and on about how amazing 200 hits is. There's a LOT more that goes into a team scoring runs than a guy racking up a bunch of infield hits and bloop singles. Ichiro's .283 batting average is far less valuable than a player who hits .250, walks 70 times, and manages 15-20 HR's, something the Tigers should be able to find instead of just settling for Ichiro. Batting average isn't everything, I hate to break it to you.
Don't get me wrong, I won't be horribly upset if they do sign him. I just prefer to look past things like batting average and when I do, I can plainly see that Ichiro just isn't as valuable as the guys on TV tell me he is. I would rather they find more of an all-around hitter.Up above, aliens hover, making home movies for the folks back home.

I just assumed you knew the difference between AB's and PA's.
You're pulling a classic Cecil move here of avoiding the point I'm trying to make.Up above, aliens hover, making home movies for the folks back home.

I happen to think there's a decent chance that he does come here. He wants a ring.
