Maddux and Johnson both won 4 in a row, while Koufax, Lincecum, Palmer, Clemens (twice), and Martinez have all won two in a row. Countless other players have won two over a 3-year span. Point being, being a past winner doesn't hurt you.

JV should win but voters do love W-L record and ERA even if there is marginal difference between JV's and Price's

did they win 2 in a row when the opposition had a better record and comparable stats in everything else? I simply don't expect him to win it and I"ll be stunned, in a good way, if he does.

No surprise on the AL Cy Young. I was hoping for JV, but Price had a good year as well.

David Price and RA Dickey both deserve the Cy.

I get the feeling that tomorrow's AL MVP will be just as close as the AL Cy.

JV losing the Cy Young just adds the salt to the wound of getting swept in the World Series. Let's hope Miggy can win the MVP tomorrow.

I think JV got robbed. He was better in everything except ERA and wins, and pitched more innings.

Price won because the voters love W's and ERA, which is completely fine and not surprising. I just don't buy that it had anything to do with JV winning last year, and I certainly wouldn't have been "stunned" if JV did win. It ended up being pretty close!

I'd expect sportswriters to vote for Cabrera. But, I won't be angry if he loses. In comparing the two, I'd be more angry that Verlander lost given that I think he is more deserving of the Cy Young than Cabrera is of the MVP.

I also don't really care either way because its subjective and inherently flawed given that it puts sportswriters in a position of authority. Sportswriters are supposed to be good at writing, conducting interviews, networking and getting information from people to report to their readers. I don't see what makes them qualified to decide who was the best pitcher or MVP of a particular season when very little of their job has to do with assessing a player's performance.

Yeah, if I had a vote it would be for Trout, but I am fairly confident Cabrera wins it, probably rather easily. Everyone is pegging this as a SABR vs. Traditional debate, new school vs. old school and it is outside of voting circles, but the baseball writers that have a say in this don't even understand what most of the sabermetric stats mean. The BBWAA writers that have votes have been writing for newspapers for a very long time... the saber argument wouldn't really be valid unless voting was also opened up to MLB.com reporters, and most of that stuff is still over their heads.

I do think Miggy will win it, but to think if he just had two fewer home runs - Trout would win it in a landslide. That's how much that Triple Crown means.

If they didn't freak out over Verlander losing, they shouldn't freak out over this. From what I've seen, this board will handle it better than other places anyway. Cabrera is probably going to win anyway, so it won't matter.

I don't understand why you are being argumentative. The very reason why I thought it was a slam dunk for Price was because voters love W and ERA and considering JV already won it, that's just the thing they need to convince them that it's Price's year. That's what I thought would happen. As for what I think should have happened, it was about right. They were close. I'd have given it to JV but it's not at all a travesty that Price won. I am upset a bit but only becaus JV plays for my team.

Price winning the Cy Young doesn't bother me at all. If I hate a vote I would have voted for him first and JV second. But don't doubt that the two Angels writers voting JV third had an agenda. Weaver will blow out like his brother did in another year or two.

He actually won because two LA voters voted Price 1st, Weaver 2nd, and JV 3rd.

JV wins if those two vote him 2nd, as Weaver as no argument for being even in the same league as JV this past season.
