Tigers in 6. SF catches a couple of breaks to take the Series back home, only to lose it to the Tigs in Game 6, with JV getting the win and Series MVP.

Tigers will probably win. No idea how many games, although I'd lean towards a shorter series. Tigers match up well with the Giants, but anything can happen in a short series.

The Giants burning through arguably their two best starters in games 6 and 7 gives the Tigers the starting pitching advantage the first two road games and may cost the Giants its home field advantage.

I'm taking this pessimist thing to the very end.

Giants in six because the Tigers will press against average pitching and get dominated Bruce Chen-style and Marco Scutaro will hit four homers.

Still trying to get a grasp of the Tigers being in the World Series. Not because I didn't think they could do it. It just doesn't happen very often. I kind of want it to go 7 (as long as the Tigers win of course) just to squeeze in as much baseball as possible, but would be happy if the Tigers could sweep. No predictions from me. Just GO TIGERS!

I voted for the Tigers in 7 games. I think this is a close series, but having Verlander start 2 games and available for relief in game 7 gives us a slight advantage.

Doesn't this go both ways, though? Cain and vogelsong will have more favorable matchups in games 2 and 3, though vogelsong would be on short rest in game 2. My point is, I would prefer Cain be matched up against verlander, because we still have the advantage.

That being said, any of our pitchers can put up zeroes.

Does it seem weird to anyone else when an article mentions that the tigers return to the World Series for the first time since 2006? It seems to be presented as if they are ending some long drought, but twice in seven years is a lot. Very few teams can show something better than that.

Obviously if Cabrera could play third it would be a sweep. It's amazing how Keith Law's anti-tigers bias shines through when he's predicting they'll easily win the world series.

I have tickets to game five so I expect a tigers sweep.

Maybe I'm being greedy, but our rotation is better than theirs, and our offense is better. The defensive difference shows up in the pitching.

Tigers in five seems right to me. Giants will win game four to avoid the sweep.

True, but I don't think it's as big of an advantage as what the Tigers should have in the beginning of the series due to the strength of our #3 and #4 guys. Voglesong probably goes on short rest for game 2 and along with that, I've never trusted his performance given his shaky peripheral stats relative to his ERA. I'd take Fister over him. I think the Tigers could have a shot at doing really well against him and Zito the first 2 games. We'll see.

I'm superstitious. I hate that we seem to be the favorites. I hate that I think we're going to win in 5. I hate that it seems to be perfectly lined up for JV to have a dominating game 5 clinching victory to add one more iconic moment to his eventual HOF plaque. Why do I hate it? Because I don't know ****.

Being the favorite means very little in the playoffs, but I do like the Tigers edge in starting pitching. I don't think they have much of an offensive edge if any. It seems like they should have one, but they haven't scored a lot all year or in the playoffs. So, I wouldn't expect them to start now. I'm picking them in six because of their starters.

I love the pitching matchup for the Tigers right now with JV on the mound in Game 1 against Zito. Have to hope to be up 1-0 after that then Vogelsong on 3 days rest hopefully bodes well for the Tigers. So long as the defense stays sharp and the bats get clutch hits, this team can make us all very happy in about a week.

On October 5, Jayson Stark of ESPN predicted Giants over the Tigers in 7 in the World Series.

He also polled 16 GMs, executives and scouts. The Tigers' were the top pick to be AL champs, with 5 votes ahead of the Yankees and Rangers with 4 each. The Giants were 4th pick in the NL with 3 votes.

I predict there will be a complete World Series. Beyond that, anything can happen, like this, this or, God help us, this.

I think we are well-positioned to win as long as our starting pitching holds up and our big hitters come through as advertised, but given recent experience, I'm out of the short series prediction business. I'm smoking hopium instead.
But tonight, I say we must move forward, not backward; upward, not forward; and always twirling, twirling, twirling towards freedom!

I picked Tigers in 6 like 45% of the voters here.....surprisingly we can still be right about that prediction. Imagine going back to San Fran having won the last 3 and being up a game in the series with San Fran KNOWING they HAVE to sweep the last 2 to win it.

Unless Tigers' bats come alive and defense doesn't fall apart I see it as Giants in 6, and that's maybe generous.
