Cabrera, JV, and Prince going to KC...
...for the All-Star game. No Ajax or Beniot. I was pretty certain Ajax wouldn't get picked, but he absolutely deserved to be picked.

At first glance this seems like a pretty reasonable all star team

The 20 or so games Jackson missed really hurts him. I have a hard time putting him ahead of any of those other outfielders...maybe Granderson. It is very close but his numbers are slightly less impressive, largely because of the injury he sustained.
Hopefully, he gets voted in by the fans.

If it's just based on this year, then Jackson should definitely be in the all-star game. I don't know if the all-star game selections have ever been or should be based just on three months. The fan vote starts pretty early, so that can't be based just on this year.

"They can use both (old- and new-school statistics)," Cabrera said. "In 2012, we've got to take advantage of all that.

Did not know that.
I think you have to take into consideration overall numbers when selecting all-star. A guy like Jones has more runs, home runs, RBI's, and stolen bases than Jackson. And he is hitting 300. So even though his OPS is a little lower, I still think you have to give him the nod over Jackson. Trumbo's numbers are oustanding. Bautista's average is way down but he is still producing a ridiculous amount of runs with his power.

Truthfully, you can only say Jackson deserves it over the reserves. Starters are part of the popularity contest, I mean fan voting.

But Pujols wasn't voted in, which goes against the whole "popularity" argument.

No injuries please. And save your good performances for the Tigers.

I think Jackson was probably the most deserving Tiger and he didnt get in. Not that the All-Star game means anything these days with the interleague play and players sitting out so they can have some fun in the sun. They should just do away with the game and spread those off days out through the season. maybe have the game at seasons end in hawaii or something where the stars will all surely show up.

I dunno if I agree with that. I don't think Pujols is quite the popularity star that he used to be. Between him being around for so long (ie, he's old news. Everyone expects him to be good so it's not news worthy when he is), switching leagues and a slow start... he's just doesn't have quite the star power he used to have.

I know it's unlikely, but I'd love to see Cabby and Fielder on the field at the same time in the Game. I dunno why, but I'd be happy to see that.

I think AJax might have a good shot at being a replacement as we get closer to the game. I believe the AL only has 6 OF on the roster, whereas the NL has 9 or 10.

I have but one request for our players. One at-bat, one inning, get out. Don't want injuries. I recall either the '67 or '68 All Star game. Harmon Killebrew tore his hamstring on a play at 1B and missed most of the second half of the season. Ever since then, I always dread seeing Tigers in the game out of the fear of injuries.
