Weber is just up in case they need a long guy on Saturday. Not sure who will pitch in Crosby's spot next week.

In an unrelated but probably really related note, Turner had a great start for Toledo tonight. Pretty good timing.

Only 3 ER in his last 19 innings. His bb:k has been crappy though, until tonight. I still don't think he's ready but it's probably his turn since nobody else is any good.

The question is, what would be an acceptable ERA out of the #5 spot? 4.5? 5.0? 5.5?

Coupled with his start last Saturday night in Durham, he's had two good outings back to back which is encouraging. Unlike some on the board, I think Turner is a keeper. The kid is just 21 years old. BTW, he beat Jamie Moyer last night, who also pitched well.

I just hope if he does start he starts to show us why is a top prospect.Maybe it`s just me,but whenever he`s made a start in Detroit,He hasn`t "wowed" me.I hope he does prove me wrong.

lol he's made 3 MLB starts, all last year, and he was 20 years old. Why would you expect a 20 year old to wow you? How many 20 year olds come in and pitch well?

Last night Turner beat a Nolfolk that included:

    Nate McClouth
    Lew Ford - ex Twin
Miguel Tejada - yeah, that Tejada
    Bill Hall - 2nd baseman!
Xavier Avery - 15 games in the bigs this year

As mentioned earlier Jamie Moyer started. J.C. Romero finished up.

Nice test for Turn. This is what makes AAA cool.

Valverde would look good in that lineup.
    Hail to Victor!

Let's all be honest with ourselves. Brad Penny would be acceptable at this point. The guy gave us innings and better numbers than Wilk and Crosby while filling in for Fister.

When everyone's healthy, Smyly is much better than Penny. It would have been retarded to bring him back, which seems to be what you're suggesting.

I would not want him back, but Smyly has pitched like Penny in his last six starts. Also, Penny was better than Wilk, Crosby.

Well on the other hand Brad Penny was released from his Japanese team after he threw a tantrum and refused to rehab with their version of a minor league team, then he signed with the Giants and pitched horribly in AAA before going down injured again. I also feel pretty confident that given more than 11 ip Wilk wouldn't have been any worse than him, he struck out more and walked less. I don't even think his stuff was much worse really.

The point is Brad Penny is the worst and if the Tigers re-signed him the world would probably crack in half killing us all.

Hey I don't think anyone disagrees. Penny sucks. But, as painful as this is to suggest, the Tigers were pretty successful in games he did pitch last year, and you could at..you know what, screw this. Penny sucks and was **** last year. I was gonna say that he kept them in games but he really didn't. The only positive is that he did make 31 starts!
