Prince is pretty much a pull hitter and the park is pretty fair on the 'right' side of right field. I think the one the park hurts the most is Cabby. Even though he does reach the shrubbery on occasion, he's also had a few outs on the CF warning track between the angles deeper than 410 that would be out in 9/10 other parks.

Turns out that Nick has been breaking in an OF glove before games. Maybe he'll make a run at the LF job next spring?

True. Very few power hitters that spray the ball as well as Cabrera.
ESPN had a blurb before the season that of Fielder's 24 home runs hit at Miller Park (in 2011), nine would not have been home runs at Comerica (this does not take into consideration wind patterns at Comerica). That is a pretty significant amount IMO. These were all from left center to right center because the corners are pretty comparable in the two parks. Fielder had 20 home runs at the break in 2010 and 22 by the break last year. Has Comerica hurt his home run stats? I think it has. But his average is holding right where he was last year and it is a pretty safe bet he has developed into a .290-.300 hitter. As long as he can hold that steady and does not turn into the next Mark Teixeira (where Yankees stadium really seems to affect his approach and average), then I am fine. Maybe he will hit 5-10 less home runs per year as a Tiger but he can still be at an elite offensive first baseman even if that is the case.

Fielder has lost a whopping 2 HR's this year... one of them was a hit anyhow.
A couple other balls may have hit the wall in Miller Park, but they may have been caught as well.

Those look like comerica's dimensions circa 2000 before they brought in the wall.

Okay..............need to ask here. How do you pronounce Nick's last name. I am of the belief that the kid is Greek - so you say it just as it's spelled, but I hear people on the radio saying it with the LL as a Y, like a Spanish pronunciation. Is he Latino or Greek? I have heard it said several different ways, including Pat Caputo butchering it several different ways in the same day.

To the extent Cabrera and Fielder have lost HR due to park dimensions, I imagine the opposition have lost a similar amount, so I'd guess it is near a zero-sum game as it pertains to the Tigers overall success.

Very good. This was only a matter of time. And I like that he's in 9 and not 7. Totally Pwning the Futures Game is forcing the org' to speed up their plans a bit. I like it. See you in a month and a half, Nick.

I asked Jim Callis of BA this in a chat and he responded...
BaseballAmerica.com: Chat: Draft And Prospects Chat With Jim CallisIke (Detroit): Nick Castellanos starting in RF for Erie this evening. With Caberer-Fielder-Victor Martinez all signed through 2014, is this the right move to get Nick's bat into the lineup?
Jim Callis: When Castellanos is ready, Cabrera needs to stop masquerading as a third baseman.

Miggy is really not that atrocious at third base. Playing him there creates room for both Prince and Victor in the lineup, in the short term.
I think we see Nick in the Detroit outfield September 1st, at the latest.2012 & 2013 Adopt A Tiger: Dean Green (Lakeland Flying Tigers)

I'm still tempted to think that Victor might actually be a better 1B than Prince. That's not saying much, natch.

Yeah...he sure has struck out a lot since I posted that. Still plenty of hits though too...his BABIP must be like .500
I am starting to get slightly concerned about the Ks, but only slightly. Don't know if this is noteworthy or not, but in addition to hitting 8 of his 11 AA XBHs at home, he has only struck out 9 times in 16 home games, as compared to 19 Ks in 12 road games.

After homering in consecutive nights, Nick is posting a .302/.320/.496 line, with 6 HR's in 34 games. He's finally starting to draw walks too, with 3 in his last 5 games.

Has anyone seen him in the OF? How is he looking? If he is competent there, I would not be surprised to see him get a call up this year.
I just met you, and this is crazy,
I want JBK to see this, could you quote me maybe?

This has definitely been as good a season as anyone could have reasonably expected from Nick. With his transition to RF, he's set himself up nicely to possibly make the team next spring, or a very early call-up.
