If trading Turner is on the table, you need to be getting way more than 15 starts of someone. As enticing as the idea is, there's just no way you can trade a top 50 prospect for half a season of anyone.

I really think the Tigers path going forward is going to be trying to use the cheapest, cost controlled talent the Tigers can develop and mix them in with Cabrera, Fielder and Verlander and hope for the best. The Tigers are not in a good position to "raid" the minor leagues for 2 or 3 young prospects to get a starting pitcher that is already making $13.5M.

I have mentioned this before, but there aren't going to be many teams paying a high price for upcoming free agent studs due to the loss of free agent compensation.
I don't see the brewers getting much for greinke if they decide to trade him. A package involving smyly might be able to get it done. The brewers will need to weigh the value of something like smyly and Brantly against the two comp picks they would get. Teams are much more protective of their top prospects these days, so I don't see many that would trade a package equal to turner and castellanos for a rental. That type of package will be reserved for players that have at least another year left on their deal.Ajax is only the third most valuable tiger.

And with the economy in general, many teams are near the top end of their payroll and are looking for more creative solutions just as the Tigers are. Just as a sign of how things are going, I almost choked on my drink when the Red Sox's broadcasters said in all seriousness that Marco Scutaro (and his $6M salary) was traded to free up money for the Red Sox to be able to afford to sign Cody Ross and a few other players...
Remember, the Red Sox's have a payroll of $175M for this year....“Diplomacy is the art of saying "Nice doggie" until you can find a rock.” -Will Rogers

Forgot that draft compensation was thrown out the window when a player is traded. With this new rule, plus 2nd wild card keeping more teams in the mix, it certainly seems like fewer star players will be moved. Is Smyly and Brantly worth half a season of Greinke? In this case, it probably makes more sense for Milwaukee to hold onto him, unless they get a Wheeler for Beltran type offer.

They called up Omir Santos and not Brantly or McCann? Wasted picks.

It's pretty obvious that MSUB is just trolling at this point.

Turner was supposed to compete for a rotation spot this spring, neither of those two guys were. And why call up Brantly for two games? Seems pointless to start his clock, and send him back down for Jackson. I do think Brantly will be better than Avila, and will be our starting catcher in 2014.

Crosby is hot right now and almost 3 years older than Turner. You can think whatever you want of Turner, its your opinion, but trying to link this to how Turner is viewed is just idiotic.

Change the name of the thread to 'Jacob Turner will regret not being traded by the Tigers this past offseason' because I feel sorry for any pitcher on this team

Turner pitched a complete game shutout tonight. 9 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 6 K.
Now 4-2 with a 3.16 ERA in AAA as a 21 year old.
Not to mention; check out this list of the top 10 RHP in baseball and compare Turner's numbers to the others in AAA.

The walk rate still sucks but that's a hell of a game from such a young kid.
