Lynn G. Henning @Lynn_Henning
Leyland's edge with Eldred is he's a legit DH -- no position politics. Dirks will steadily move to LF. Delmon's time would appear limited.

Inge disabled his Facebook account. What's up with that? I thought we were friends. He was just using me.

I feel a bit for the guy. He had a long career and was a solid role player. Always tough to see an athlete "done" before he is done playing. Inge played hard and stayed out of trouble.
He just wasn't very good. I still can't believe he managed to get a HR this year, he just had no bat speed left.
He has a career as an infielders coach ahead of him.

The Tigers are on the hook for the full 5.5 million of his pay this season, right? Somebody is going to take a chance on him.

I'm glad Inge departed with some class. I could handle his ineptness on the field but the copping of the attitude was a little hard to take. Wish him well.

Glad that he's gone. Still hard to see someone who has been on the team this long go away like this.
But it's not harder than watching him biff plays and whiff through sliders in the dirt."I can't say I'm pleased to see you and warn you I may have to do something about it." Knut Hamsun

NOOOOOOOOOOOO.
We could have put him in the bullpen, or rotation. That way he didn't have to hit.Blessed be the LORD my strength, which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight; my goodness, and my fortress; my high tower, and my deliverer; my shield, and he in whom I trust; who subdueth my people under me. -- Psalm 144:1-2

I expect him to retire within the week. He is too pro-Detroit to go any where else. He gets the 5.5 million anyway, and he probably won't want to move his family... He'll retire with his full career as a Tiger... Wouldn't be surprised if he goes to FSD after that. He likes to talk - he'd be a good fit and a great person to make fun of.

Not sure how this works. If someone claims him and he refuses to go, the Tigers wouldn't have to pay him, would they?
5.5 million dollars would be hard to walk away from. If someone claims him, they're on the hook for his contract. But, if he clears waivers, any team could have him for the league minimum and the Tigs would have to pay the rest. If he retires, doesn't he forfeit the contract?2013 AAT: Brennan Smith

Somebody refresh my memory. Didn't Inge refuse to either continue catching or go back to catching as well as making a bunch of negative comments in the press? Everybody is saying what a great guy and team player he was but I seem to remember at least a few controversies surrounding him.

He lived a dream that few are able to attain. He made a lot of money. He was an All-Star, and he played in a World Series. That's pretty good. Being universally liked or respected may rate high in some ways but all this other stuff is good too. Overall, Brandon Inge has gotten more out of this game than most. I wish him well.

It's likely someone will pick him up. He'll get one last shot at being a Major League player before he begins his inevitable coaching career. Thanks to the Tigers generosity, he might have been the highest-paid lousy player in ML history.

Inge should be remembered fondly, despite the occasional drama. He was a good player for a winning team for a number of years, and a Tiger all the way through.

10-9 feels like 10-20, so this is obviously long over due.
This team is way better than getting swept by the Mariners though, and it all hinges on pitching.
We win 2 of 3 easily if our pitchers don't poo their way on and off the field.GO TIGERS

He also said the fact they wouldn't give him full time at bats was why he wasn't able to get on track

They put him in this position - to get booed - when they brought him up after spring training. We all knew it was over - funny that the people that do this for a living didn't. Maybe they wanted to make him eligible for a world series ring, but that shouldn't be a motivation - that would be silly. I hope if they do win it all - they give him a ring, he deserves it for being here through the bad and good - but all athletic careers come to an end. Too bad it wasn't recognized around April 3rd or 4th.
I don't expect much from Eldred. I think of him as Mike Laga.
As far as a trade for a 2B. Root hard for the Cincinnati Reds to suck this year because I would just love to see Brandon Phillips in the Olde English D .AAT: VICTOR MARTINEZ

I loved Brandon Inge the person. He not only made Detroit his home (he is the only Tiger who wintered up here & I believe plans to stay despite his release)....but he did a ton for the community. But from a baseball aspect, and the good of the Tigers, it was definitely time.

Thanks, Brandon, for many a great memory. I watched you make some of the greatest defensive plays in MLB history,
at 3 entirely different positions. And for one shining half season, you were the best third baseman in baseball.
Also your work in the community and choice of Michigan as a year round home will be long remembered by this Tigers fan.
Still wish you would have pitched at least once, though. :-(2012 & 2013 Adopt A Tiger: Dean Green (Lakeland Flying Tigers)
