Victor Martinez early return?

Don't know if anyone caught this, but Tom Gage on Twitter is reporting that the damage to Martinez's knee was not as severe as initially thought. Reports are stating that he only needed micro fracture surgery, and no ACL reconstruction. While it is still a longshot, it's possible we could see him back before the end of this year.

Well, just saw it on BYB. Don't hold your breath but could you imagine going into the playoffs with him?

A Martinez even at 70% would be huge for this team. I'm sure he would be incredibly rusty, but if he could just give us .280/.340/.450 line that would make this offense nearly unstoppable.

That's all well and good, but he's not going to have anywhere to play. Cabrera isn't going to last at third base and will be DH by June.

Grady Sizemore had Microfracture surgery in June 2010 and came back in April 2011, so 10 months. Victor had the surgery at the end of January this year so if he would have to recover pretty quickly to be back by October of this year but hey, we can hope!

Also different expectations of a DH and your center fielder. They are very different players too in terms of their need for hitting style/ running, etc.

I feel bad for the guy. You could tell how frustrated he was when he showed at Lakeland for that spring game.

I've thought Cabby has looked pretty solid at 3B. I was a skeptic, but each game he has looked a little more fluid than the last. He'll be at 3B come playoff time.

So even if he is ready to play they won't play him cause of Cabrera not being able to play 3rd? I hope that is a joke cause you don't sit one of your best players because of not having a spot for him. They will find a spot for him one way or another.

Looks like July will truly be Christmas if the news is positive. I'm sure they won't let victor do something questionable.

Very true. At the very least it means he should be more than ready to go for spring training 2013 which is good.

sadly, the early chemistry of Miggy and Prince will be spoiled by a Kenny Powers' like jealousy aroused in V-Mart. He will spend the playoffs trying to divide the locker room against Prince because Miggy was once his BFF.

Easy, just bat 10. Players Union will love that. Nothing says America's past time like multiple DH's! After all, according to the experts, we are now entering the decade of the pitcher. Time to level the playing field! :)

I'm sure as soon as he's cleared to start baseball activity he will. He may not come back as rusty as some may think. But, that would really help for an Oct. run.

Yeah, but I heard Martinez played several games at 3rd base for Ciudad, Boliva high school back in the day and he looked really good.

BTW, that show is the most uncomfortable 30 minutes on TV. I do not know why I can't stop tuning in. I really want Kenny to get it together and learn the knuckler and get April back...but sheesh.

I stopped watching after the episode after the coke death. When most of the characters have zero redeeming qualities, I find it hard to watch. I thought season one was hilarious, two was up and down, and the third one just went too far.

I'm assuming Martinez won't be back this season and I'm not sure I'd want him back. Even it he does come back, it will take him a while to get going and I'd be worried about his getting hurt. I think it would be better if he took the whole year off and came back fully strong and healthy next year.
