that was pretty funny, thanks for the link! loved the umpire getting the heck out of dodge, and the kung fu panda comparison.

lol
I remember that game. I watched the whole thing and was super pissed at how dumb it was."Yeah You're right man...that is enough."

I remember this game. It's funnier to look back on now, but the most ridiculous game from this season was the division clincher against the A's. Star Wars Night? The blackout? The friggen guy on the treadmill in the stands? It was bizarre.

It just strengthens my case that Impemba and Allen aren't quality announcers. Vin Scully, an octogenarian all by himself in that booth, would have filled the broadcast with enough information to make the broadcast interesting despite the horrible game on the field.
Vanilla Milquetoast Boy and Mr. Whoo Hoo I See Ya with their unnecessary silence just prove that Tigers fans deserve better.

There is a difference between the silence of "letting the moment happen" and the silence because one is either under prepared, lacking in broadcast skills or not interesting enough to have something to say.
I'd say that in this instance, all three are true.

I think they both do fine. We seem to be at an impasse:
"Yeah You're right man...that is enough."
-
And I'll say nothing is more annoying than an exciting moment happening and the announcer not saying dick. Intentional silence, to me, is much more annoying than just being in a boring game and not having anything to say. I like hearing the announcers yell and get excited with something happens.

I don't mind Price as much as I used to. When I hear Dickerson and Price, it feels like a baseball game. When I hear Impemba and Allen, it could be baseball, football , baseketball or field hockey. It feels like a generic event where they try to appeal to an audience that may or may not be interested in baseball.

I agree with that night. We left the game during the rain delay, which we never do, because we had plans the next day. All the roads and freeways around Comerica were flooded and there was a building fire north of the stadium on Woodward which rendered that unusable. We tried the Lodge which was flooded, but we were able to make a U-turn before the dividing wall and get back on surface streets. Ended up on Gratiot but 3/4ths of the traffic lights were out all the way to 8 Mile. We stopped at Big Boy by our house because it was the only restaurant open by us and proceeded to watch SF hit a grand slam minutes after we sat down. At that point it got to be funny and being the only customers in the place had some good laughs during the last few innings with the staff.

Price has gotten better, IMO, to be fair.
At a minimum he seems to enjoy working with Dan, whereas before they didn't work off of one another particularly well.I don't feel very much like a tiger. Maybe I am a vicious *** koala bear. Did you ever investigate that?

I think there needs to be a balance re: silence.
I want to hear the excitement at the time of the play, but at the same time I don't need to hear the announcers continue the celebration by talking over the players celebration. Thats when I like to just listen to the crowd and the players whoopin it up.Every time you play a hand of you poker you wanna run through a mental check list. Head Position Hand Position Neck Position Breathing Posture. More than 25 items. It's a lot. And that why I've come up with a handy mnemonic device. Just one word: HPHPNPBPECMSPAMDCPAFTSTTL. It's easy.

It's silly to debate who the best broadcasters are in the game. Every single fan is looking for something different.
I prefer to listen to Kruk and Kuip in SF because there is a solid mix of baseball talk and comedy for each and every game they broadcast. Their director deserves a whole lot of credit too. They keep it light and that's what I'm looking for.If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Then quit. There's no point in being a damn fool about it. - W. C. Fields

This came up last summer...Dan Dickerson has had some senior moments where his memory slips on game situation.

I love how the people kept changing around in the seats behind the plate, especially in the third inning during consecutive batters. That is downright bizarre.

Leave it to the guy who embarrassingly started a twitter account for the sole purpose of trashing Rod Allen to hijack a thread about a great article to trash Rod Allen.

I remember that game well. THe night before we lost on the final at bat. I think it was Boesch who hit a looper into deep 2nd that from my seats looked like it would fall in and we'd score the game winning run.
I remember that storm because we went out to dinner, got home, and I had the game on and sat on the porch marvelling at the storm that was rolling in. I called my wife who took Ben to Target with her to tell her to stay there for awhile, the wind was kicking up, the sky was turning green, and we were in for a big storm. 3 minutes later the power goes out and stayed out until Monday afternoon, which was July 4. Luckily we went to the family cottage in Irish Hills the next day. That Sunday was when RIck Knapp was fired after the game..

I was AT this game. It was one of maybe 2 or 3 Tigers games I got to see all summer at Comerica, and I got treated to that garbage.

The Friday game was also when The Beard couldn't get the save and had the epic meltdown. Too bad he couldn't get the loss, too.
That while week was bad. Didn't the Mets blow them out twice, too?Last edited by jaymo; 02-15-2012 at 09:36 PM.

Wonder how many pythagorean wins this game cost us. Maybe we were a 95-win team after all.

Worst game I ever went to was July 5th, 2010. It was a 1:05 game and it was 90 degrees. The first two innings took forever. I think there was something like 35 batters in those two innings alone. The total game time was almost 4 hours for nine innings.
