Skinny Miggy

Radhi Muhammad's Photo | Lockerz
Unreal. He looks almost as thin as Maggs in this photo.

There is not a one-to-one correspondence in terms of perspective and posture between the
first photo and this one, but he definitely looks thinner in the face and gut."If you want a guarantee, buy a toaster."--Clint Eastwood

I love it!
Kinda beginning to hit me that Ordonez isn't going to be on the Tigers this year. Kinda strange. I know his production and injuries never warranted a spot for 2012, but I am going to miss having him on the team. He was a big signing that put the club on the map

Nice. As I said a while ago, I think people underestimate this man. They think he's a great hitter, a teddy bear, and a man with a drinking problem. He probably has more pride and resolve than we can understand. He is a Hall Of Fame player and it is our privilege to see him play for our team. He's got something to prove. Underestimating this man is foolish. He won't be Brooks Robinson at 3rd, but I'll bet he'll work out well enough. I'm getting goosebumps thinking about this season. Hope the world doesn't end. That would suck in a variety of ways, especially given how fun this season will probably be.

The first pic was posted in another thread. So my questions are, which pic is most recent?
The first pic when Miggy joined the team? Or the press confrence where he's HUGE?2012 AAT: Brennan Smith

that picture with Ordonez is the most recent. On his trainer's site it comes with the caption, "He's worked hard this off season", clearly implying it was taken within the last day or two. It's surfaced in the last two days.
The one from the press conference is from last year...
The one of him batting is also from this off season.GO TIGERS

Love it. Wondering why it took this transition to third to lose weight, but nonetheless, he's going to come into camp looking good.

I've been dreading Cabrera playing 3B, but can you imagine if Cabby can pull it off and V-Mart comes back healthy for 2013?

Not trying to be a wet blanket or anything -- but I can't help but notice the pose here. By raising his arms and shoulders up, it haunches his shirt outward and serves to cover whatever belly he has there -- not entirely successfully, I might add, as I can still see the outline of a basketball or something in the middle of his shirt. I also don't see his man boobs, as we see on Maggs. My fear is that this might be an optical illusion.
I'll believe it when we see multiple pictures of a cut Miggy in camp in a couple weeks.
IN A COUPLE WEEKS! WOW, IT'S REALLY TRUE, ISN'T IT!

Amazing what happens when you cut booze out of the diet. When I quit drinking I must have dropped 15 pounds in a month.

Ha! That is skinny to some. Incredible.

The face is definitely where a 20-pound loss will show. His head is almost rectangular now, not round. "Third base? Screw that, I'm playing short".

This is like one of those movies where they spend the first half showing you only grainy indirect images of the monster before he finally strides down 5th Avenue ripping up Manhattan in broad daylight....

It's not his face where he needed to lose weight. Dude.

Look, I'm just sayin'. If he shows up on the 24th cut, with a flat tummy, I'll gladly concur that's he's in third base shape. I just want to see more than just this one picture with a pose favorable to the point before I start sipping the Kool-Aid. In the meantime, feel free to continue implying I'm crazy.

I was actually standing in the room when that photo was taken. It took Miggy a good 10 minutes to figure out which pose would make him look the slimmest.

Flat tummies are now a requirement to play 3B?
Every time you play a hand of you poker you wanna run through a mental check list. Head Position Hand Position Neck Position Breathing Posture. More than 25 items. It's a lot. And that why I've come up with a handy mnemonic device. Just one word: HPHPNPBPECMSPAMDCPAFTSTTL. It's easy.

Isn't Wyoming on the south side of GR?
BTW, Chas, are you a Corner Gas fan? Is that still on TV in the states anywhere?

BTW, Maggs looks awesome in that photo.
I hope that wherever he lands, he has a hell of a season.

No kidding. It's good to be lighter if you have to move around quickly, but a few pounds of fat around the gut is probably desirable when you start talking strength and endurance. And since JL said he thought Miggy was too light one of those years, I suspect he's keeping in mind finding the right balance.

I really doubt having extra fat around the gut makes one stronger and more durable. That being said, strength and durability are not things I'd ever worry about with Cabrera. He was a lot smaller when he played for the Marlins and he was still an elite hitter. More Mobility and flexible muscles (for avoiding muscle pulls) will help.

You still need energy to make the strength work. Fat is an energy reserve, and if you don't have enough or you overdo it trying to burn energy, you'll be functionally weaker, especially over a long season.
Aren't there players that lose 20 pounds or something over a season? You want that to be fat thats lost, not muscle.2012 Adopt A Tiger: Alex Burgos, LHSP.

Miggy's eating grass fed beef in Wyoming. That's why he's so thin. We need to get him back here in the midwest where the beef is grain fed. I'd rather have a healthy heavy third baseman than a thin malnurished one. That Wil Rhymes guy always looked kinda malnurished to me.

The most durable, energetic people I know - really good marathon runners - have very little fat around their bellies and they are tireless running 60+ miles per week year round. Any healthy person has some fat spread around their bodies (noticeable or not) which can be used as an energy reserve. I don't believe there is any benefit to having extra fat on top of that around the belly.
