I'd guess Cabrera gets every opportunity to make it work at 3b, with some time at DH. If he can't handle it, then maybe he does get traded next offseason. It actually might make the most sense if we can get a great return package and fill some holes.
I would think Cabrera would have been consulted before this went down, but after reading that Leyland only heard about it 10 minutes before it leaked, I have to wonder.

Yeah 2008 was Renteria and Jacque Jones....

Prince Fielder is a top 5 hitter in the game hitting behind a top 2 hitter in the game hitting in front of Martinez (next year)"Yeah You're right man...that is enough."

beckjason Jason Beck
Source says #Tigers approached Miguel Cabrera about Prince Fielder move. He was on board with it. So no Hanley comparisons, please.

Cabrera to the OF seems more likely to me than Cabrera to 3B.

So my full analysis on this ...
For this year...
DH/1B Prince/Miggy so when one plays 1B the other DH's for about 40 games or so. Mix Miggy in at thiird for 3-4 games to see where he is at and then make the full transition with Miggy at thiird and prince at 1B.
For next year....
Maybe (and I do not want this, AT ALL), but if you do not win it all this year...trade Miggy to the Dodgers for a boat load."Yeah You're right man...that is enough."

Bring on the offense at the expense of defense. The difference between a great defensive player and a mediocre one is not so many outs IMO.

Over the last 3 years, Baseball Info Solutions says Cabrera cost his team 16 runs at 1B. Prince cost 15. So flip a coin.

I think Cabrera is just fine at 3B. He has a solid arm and he has shown excellent mobility at 1st which can no doubt translate to an acceptable level at 3rd.
But yeah, I don't give too much of a damn. I like the potential of the the amount of runs created in the lineup to offset any potential defensive issues.Retired. Thanks for the entertainment.

I don't think I've ever been so ****ing happy in my life.

Put me in the Miguel to LF group. I think he and Prince both see a lot of time at 1B/DH and they work Miguel into about 50 games in LF. Next year, Cabrera is your full time LF. He's huge, but the guy has some athletic ability.
Every time you play a hand of you poker you wanna run through a mental check list. Head Position Hand Position Neck Position Breathing Posture. More than 25 items. It's a lot. And that why I've come up with a handy mnemonic device. Just one word: HPHPNPBPECMSPAMDCPAFTSTTL. It's easy.

They were going to play Cabrera at 3b if they made the World Series, so I'd imagine that's where he gets first crack now. A corner OF position is certainly possible as well. Delmon moves to DH in all scenarios, I'd imagine. Raburn and Dirks take over LF if Cabrera goes to 3b.
