Dude was signed by the Tigers in 97!! 13 years ago. Give him a cup of coffee already. What do you have to lose?

It's time. Laird's defensive 'value' is at the bottom of a tequila bottle.

I doubt that it matters what St. Pierre is hitting. As long as its better than .190...

Can anyone shed some light for me on Max's defensive abilities? They have to be better than Lairds right now, right?

There's a reason you keep a catcher around for 13 years. He is good defensively, but has never been able to hit.

It would appear that is the case. Not like AAA runners are big league runners, however, CS% last three years:
    36%
    47%
    44%

Only two passed balls the last two years combined. Looks pretty servicable to me on the surface.

Wouldnt want to hurt Leylands feelings though, or else theyd have DFAd his other mancrush Don Kelly long ago..
Its almost like theyre secretly related, thats pretty much the only excuse I can think of for either of these guys to still be wearing a Tiger uni.

There are advantages to waiting until Aug. 1st to DFA Laird. Then you can put him on waivers and see if there is any interest. If there is, then can trade for a low level player that can help your system. So wait a week!

Lard hit a home run earlier this month.
That guarantees that he will be here for at least another month.

That happens anytime a team designates, doesn't it?

Offensively he can't be any worse than Laird. Defensively I don't know, although I suspect Laird's defense has been getting worse.

And, once every five days, it'll be the New and Improved Double-Max battery.

I'd rather have a cardboard cutout of Bob Uecker standing at the plate than G-Money -- at least the cutout wouldn't hit into so many DPs.

So put me down as rooting for Max, too. I see no reason not to do it.

Max was a September call up in '04, although he never got into a game. Team told him he would be the bullpen catcher, I believe.

A thought just occurred to me. Let's say the Tigers, for whatever reason, don't want to DFA Laird. Would anyone be in favor of sending Avila to AAA for St. Pierre?
