Cody Satterwhite Injury
I may not be posting this in the correct forum but I noticed on another sight where this player has a torn labrum. If true, this would be a damaging blow to a most valuable prospect.
I'm quite surprised that there is not more information or news about his condition.A colorful and likable man, Stanley "Frenchy" Bordagaray once lost his head and spit at an umpire. When he saw the size of his fine, he said, "It was more than I expectorated."

I am such good luck for my AATs. Last year, mine didn't even play a game within the organization, and now this.
I'm sorry, Cody.09-10 AAW: Dan Cleary

Bill had it on his site.
Minor League Rosters Announced — The Detroit Tiger Weblog
Audy Ciriaco and Cody Satterwhite are both starting their seasons on the DL. In Satterwhite’s case it is a torn labrum. While I don’t know the severity this is often a career-altering type of injuryDreaming about a repeat of 1984, 1968, 1945 and 1935

Darn darn darn if true, I hope Cody gets back on his feet ... Weinhart just became an even bigger prospect for us.

This is why you can't project pitching staffs five years ahead of time, or even two years. This is unfortunate.

We are still pretty deep with RP's, but all the better that we were able to bring Fien back to the organization.

Update on the Famous Relief Pitcher Draft of 2008, where 7 of the top 10 picks were relievers:
#1 Ryan Perry -- in Detroit and lookin' good
#2 Satterwhite -- torn labrum
#3 Scott Green -- recovering from surgery for torn labrum
#4 Brett Jacobsen -- generously given as a gift to the Baltimore Orioles
#6 Tyler Stohr -- should be the closer in Lakeland this year (lookin' good)
#9 Anthony Shawler -- in the Lakeland 'pen
#10 Robbie Weinhardt -- the real steal of the draft

Well, he's young. He's got that going for him. Many young players come back from major arm surgery. Rodney had Tommy John surgery when he was younger. It's not like Nathan who was already in his twilight years. And that other guy, Tommy John? He came back from Tommy John surgery.
Heck, they even named the procedure after him. : )

As Tiger fans, we of course know that Dick McAlliffe beat the livin' crap out of Tommy John in 1968.

Obviously, it depends on the extent of the tear. Chris Carpenter had the surgery in 2002-3 and was a Cy Young winner by 2005... However, there have been a lot of pitchers who couldn't come back. Given that Satterwhite had some shoulder issues last year and continued to pitch, I'm betting the tear is severe and he could be out for a while and could struggle to recover. Then again, I'm only speculating. The key will be next year. If Satterwhite can re-establish himself in the upper levels next year, it would be huge. If he's toiling in the short season leagues, you can almost stick a fork in him.

This type of thing reinforces my doubts about encouraging my sons to pitch. They will both be tall and broad shouldered, but perhaps basketball would be better.

Tigers are now denying that Satterwhite has a torn labrum. From the Detroit News:

It's a matter of who one chooses to believe. Looking at the situation objectively, I can see no reason for you to report what you did, unless a mistake was made.
The Tigers, on the other hand, could have several possible reasons for downplaying the injury at this point.
So in the absence of further information, I believe you, because you don't have a reason to report anything but the truth. The Tigers do.

Jason Beck, of MLB.com, reports Detroit Tigers RP Cody Satterwhite (shoulder) received a cortisone injection in his injured shoulder Monday, April 5, and will be watched closely over the next few weeks. Head athletic trainer Kevin Rand is calling Satterwhite's injury a posterior impingement in his right shoulder. Dr. James Andrews will examine Satterwhite Friday, April 9.

The Freep is where I read it........
Top Tigers prospect Casey Crosby has sore elbow | freep.com | Detroit Free Press
By JOHN LOWE
FREE PRESS SPORTS WRITER
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Casey Crosby, the Detroit
Tigers’ minor league pitcher of the year last
season, has a tender pitching elbow and likely
won’t make his first start of the season as
scheduled.
The left-hander will have an exam on the elbow
to make sure nothing is seriously wrong.
Crosby, 21, had reconstructive surgery on that
elbow two years ago.
Crosby roared back from the surgery last season.
He struck out more than a hitter per inning at
West Michigan, the Tigers’ low Class A farm
club. He went 10-4 with a 2.41 ERA.
Crosby is due to open this season at Lakeland in
high Class A.
The authoritative publication Baseball America
ranks Crosby as the Tigers’ second-best
prospect, behind only right-handed starter Jacob
Turner, the club’s top draft pick last year.
“Crosby has an electric arm and is one of the
game’s best left-handed pitching prospects,”
reports Baseball America.2010 Adopt-A-Tiger, The GREAT Ernie Harwell
