Verlander wins 20. Bonderman surprises with 14. Valverde gets 40 saves. Inge gives everyone a heart attack by hitting .250 for an entire season.

Verlander and Bonderman combine for 400 innings. Scherzer and Porcello combine for 360.

I predict that if BIG time's predictions come true, the Tigers win the division.

They say pitching beats hitting and I agree. The Tigers have the pitching to compete, but not enough hitting.
1. Twins 90-72
2. White Sox 88-74
3. Tigers 83-79
4. Royals 77-85
5. Indians 74-88

By that logic, I wonder why you think the Twins and Sox will be so far away from the Tigers in the standings. The Sox have the same sort of team the Tigers have, namely, a really nice staff but a horrible lineup. The Twins have a nice lineup but questionable defense and their pitching staff is only good because they can throw out a 4.30 ERA guy every day.
I think a lot of projections, both computer and fan based, are overestimating Mauer's power surge. I would be very surprised if he hit 25 HR this season. He's the best hitter in the division at a tough position to find a good hitter but I think their staff and defense is going to let them down. Kubel and especially Cuddyer had career years as far as power is concerned, and I think Mauer did too. If Hardy bounces back that will go a long way towards making up some of the lost offense but I just don't think they're going to repeat last season offensively.

If I had to guess, I'd probably put us at 3rd in the division. The White Sox have the better rotation and the Twins have a better lineup. But, we are a tough team to project. Most of the statistical projections should have us right around .500 or a little below. But, that is only half of what matters. Our scouts evaluations and projections for Porcello, Sizemore, Jackson, Scherzer, Bonderman, Zumaya, Perry and Schlereth may differ greatly from the statistical projections and lead them to an entirely different picture of our team. Most projections systems will have us down as having 1 above average starter (Scherzer) and one top 10 starter (Verlander) and the rest of our rotation filled with borderline back of the rotation and below average starters. Bullpens are very hard to predict statistically and ours won't look that good on paper. But, we are built around our pitching and we probably expect a lot better seasons than some of the projections suggest we should from our starting rotation and bullpen. If we do, that really will skew the statistical projections for our team. As we get closer and closer to the season, the more confident I get in our team. I think we are going to excel in run prevention.

If Bonderman comes back as a 4.25 FIP pitcher and can throw 180 innings, that will go a long way towards my confidence in the team. I think he will. Without him, the rotation looks a bit thin on the back end. EDIT - And I'm not sure the top end, good as it might be, could make up for Robertson and Galarraga and others getting 60+ starts.
If they can get 90 starts out of Verlander, Scherzer, and Porcello, they should be competitive. To me it all comes down to this: can the guys who we want to be pitching the innings actually pitch them? If they can't, the offense sure as hell isn't going to overcome that.

That is the most accurate prediction.

Both teams have Offense, but the Colts have a better Defense which swings it in their direction for me. But I still see this as ending up with a big score.

Sizemore hits .285 with 15 homers, and plays acceptable defense at second.
Cabrera goes off - .330, 35 HR, 150 RBI.
Bonderman 4.10 ERA and 15 wins
Verlander 3.20 ERA and 21 wins
Scherzer 4.40 ERA and 12 wins, but does manage 200 K's.

Too early to predict. I'll wait until the final roster is set.

By now, any additions or subtractions aren't going to be more than 1 WAR type players unless they sign Damon.

One word. Injuries. That's why it's too early to make any projections.

Hard to believe these W/L records, given the accompanying ERA's... Unless you think the offense is pretty spectacular this season, which is a bit of a stretch.

Is this your way of saying you're not ready to make any predictions about the Tigers?
FWIW, I'm seeing a record above .500 for the year. With a little luck, who knows what might happen?

I want the Twins to finish deal last. I don't need any final rosters to wish that. I hope the hocus-pocus was left in that damn dome. I actually want them to finish behind the Indians.

The Tigers will go undefeated.
The Twins will not win a game and relocate to Bolivia.
Tigers lose to the Royals in a one game playoff since they also went undefeated.
Washington Nationals win the World Series in 4 games over the Seattle Mariners.

Uuuuhh, this might be a little hard to do as Det plays KC about 18 times. (Guess those games were all rained out!

1. Twins- Not the greatest rotation, but they always find a way. Adding Hudson and Thome will only make this team better.
2. White Sox- Perhaps one of the best staffs in the league. I still think the White Sox will either win the division or finish a few games back.
3. Tigers- Pitching will be there, but the hitting and question marks at CF and 2B could hurt the TIGS.
4. Royals- A few nice off season moves, but the Royals are still a few years away.
5. Indians- I think Sizemore, Choo and a few new names will have nice years, but the pitching will hurt this team.

Just because Sizemore is a rookie doesn't mean he's a question mark. I think he's a lock for .750 OPS and it wouldn't surprise me to see him much higher.

Tigers finish third with a barley sub .500 record. I base that on the fact that the Tigers usually do about as well as the White Sox do the year before hand the last couple of years.

What does Barley have to do with this thread? I mean seriously, just because Wheat and Oats are having a tough season, means nothing, Barley will not be ready for at least two more years. Look for him in September 2013. If he hasn't fermented by then.

I think JV figured it out last year. He's figured out hitters, hitters can't figure out 97 and a nasty curve that looks like it is about a foot above the zone, only to have it land at their belt buckle.
