Default I thought this was kind of cool to see...

First, fangraphs updated their top 10 tiger prospects after the trade (they don't include members of the '09 draft class).

    Tigers Top 10 (Updated)
    1. Casey Crosby, LHP, Low-A
    2. Austin Jackson, OF, Triple-A
    3. Daniel Schlereth, LHP, MLB
    4. Ryan Strieby, 1B, Double-A
    5. Alex Avila, C, MLB
    6. Scott Sizemore, 2B, Triple-A
    7. Wilken Ramirez, OF, MLB
    8. Robbie Weinhardt, RHP, Double-A
    9. Cody Satterwhite, RHP, Double-A
    10. Brennan Boesch, OF, Double-A

    The Fallen:
    11. Alfredo Figaro, RHP, Majors
    12. Luis Marte, RHP, Triple-A
AL/NL Central Top 10 Prospects | FanGraphs Baseball

I was also looking back on some of the rankings from BA and they had this posted as they're projected 2010 Tigers lineup in 2006. Now they don't account for free agency or trades or anything just simply on whats in the system at that time but this is what they had and I added in what they actually have now....

    Catcher Brandon Inge/Laird and Avila
    First Base Jeff Larish/Cabrera
    Second Base Placido Polanco/Sizemore
    Third Base Kody Kirkland/Inge
    Shortstop Carlos Guillen/Everett and Santiago
Left Field Curtis Granderson/Guillen and Raburn and Clete and whoever else
    Center Field Cameron Maybin/Jackson
    Right Field Brent Clevlen/Magglio
DH Magglio Ordonez/Guillen and Raburn and I have no idea
    No. 1 Starter Justin Verlander/Verlander
    No. 2 Starter Andrew Miller/Porcello
    No. 3 Starter Jeremy Bonderman/Scherzer
    No. 4 Starter Nate Robertson/Bonderman
No. 5 Starter Jair Jurrjens/Roberston or Armando or Willis or Coke or.....
Closer Joel Zumaya/Zumaya or Perry or who knows at this time.

Kind of fun to go back and see. I don't think their is much a question that the actually 2010 team should be better than the one BA projected four years ago mostly because of the pitching. Really the projected lineup only has Verlander adn Jurrjens that I would feel good about going into this year. Whereas the actually rotation has Verlander, Porcello and Scherzer.

Just thought you guys might get a kick out that.

They ranked Schlereth #3, that's quite a vote of confidence, can't wait to see him. I didn't know he was drafted #26 overall either.

What amazes me is that anybody tries to project a lineup four years out, given the amount of player movement plus the level of talent coming out of college programs these days!

Yeah for sure. I mean obviously they have no way to project who a team is going to sign/trade/draft. It is kind of cool so you can go back on compare and contrast...give you something to think about in the middle of the winter.

Schereth's total minor league numbers are just insane:

    39.1 IP, 21 hits, 23 BB, 60 K's. Only one HR allowed.

Yeah, those are really encouraging to see, with the exception of his walks.

From my understanding, perry and schlereth were supposed to be pretty comparable going into the draft. If Perry hadn't been with the tigs last year, I wouldn't be suprised to see him where schlereth is now ranked.

I suspect that the first 9 prospects will play in Detroit before the season is over...pretty sweet..

Had Bonderman and Zumaya both been healthy from the start of the year last season I think there is a chance both Porcello and Perry would still be "prospects." Given the back of the rotations struggles Porcello probably would have found himself in the big leagues though.

I don't know about Crosby. If I had to shoot from the hip I would say he is the least likely of the 12 to play at some point in 2010.

But yeah, I think you're right in that most of them will see some time.

I think that goes to show how well DD has quietly build the farm system back up after the Sheffield, Cabrera and Renteria trades.

I'd like to hear from Mark how the Tiger's farm system ranks now compared to before the trade.

Definitely helps to get a couple of quality prospects back. The farm was pretty bad in 2008, a little better this year, and in 2010 it should be a pretty respectable system again, partially from the trades, but mostly from having a few drafts to rebuild a bit.

Random notes after looking at the list:

    * 6 of our top 10 are postion players.
    * At first I wanted to see the '09 draft class included, but on second thought I like this because it has to dive a little deeper.
    * If the '09 class was included, surely Turner would be on there. Oliver and Fields, too? If all 3 were, bumping 8-10 off, the split would be 50/50 position players/pitchers.
    * I don't think it's thrilling right now to see 3 of 10 be relievers, but it will be if they all pan out.

Baseball prospectus includes the guys from this years draft but this was before the trade....

    Five-Star Prospects
    1. Jacob Turner, RHP
    2. Casey Crosby, LHP
    Four-Star Prospects
    3. Scott Sizemore, 2B
    Three-Star Prospects
    4. Daniel Fields, SS
    5. Andy Oliver, LHP
    6. Alex Avila, C
    7. Cody Satterwhite, RHP
    8. Wilkin Ramirez, OF
    9. Ryan Strieby, 1B
    10. Gustavo Nunez, SS
    Two-Star Prospects
    11. Casper Wells, OF
My guess is Jackson and Schlereth would be somewhere in the top 5 or 6 and knock Nunez and Wells out.

Seeing Boesch at #10 isn't exactly a ringing endorsement for the depth of our system.
It's getting better, but I bet Boesch doesn't even crack the Top 30 for some clubs?

It's certainly improving...from being a bottom five or six system during last off-season, to what is now probably in the 17-20 range for me; maybe a touch higher. The infusion of Turner, Oliver, and Fields certainly helps, as does the emergence of Crosby, Sizemore, and Strieby....

Overall, it's a solid system, but certainly nothing spectacular, and one lacking in true star talent outside of Crosby and Turner.

Thanks. It's nice to see some improvement, even if they had nowhere to go but up.

Having two supplementals should help them improve even more. It will be fun draft with the Tigers getting three picks out of the first 40 or 50.

He was a 3rd round pick and hit .275 28 HR 93 RBI last year in aa. He has a low OBP and is 24 but i think the power he showed last year is promising. I think he would be top 30 for most clubs, prob not top 10 though.
