Good thing the Tiger woods thing didn't break today or else twitter would be all tiger'ed out.
These up to the minute rumors are not a good thing. All it does is create chaos. It'd be very easy for a troll to get something started. It'd be fun just to see it all develop.

I disagree, to me the rumors are the most interesting part. There are always going to be people who try to mess things up, but usually the BS info doesn't get in the way of the real rumors.

No matter what you thought at the time, I don't know how anyone could say that Joyce wasn't worth the names that are being tossed around as coming back for EJ. + the season he put in for us last year. I'll tell you this, if all we get back for him is a Joyce equivalent I'd be pretty disappointed - and based on the reports it is going to take more than that- but even if we did we got last year as well so we still win that trade.

Yankees could thwart Cubs' shot at Granderson
December 7, 2009 1:28 PM
By Dave van Dyck
INDIANAPOLIS -- Latest hot winter-meetings rumor making the rounds in the Marriott Hotel lobby is that the Yankees are hot on the trail of Tigers center fielder Curtis Granderson, and that is not good news for the Cubs.

I saw Drew's name floated as a trade candidate (not specifically to the Tigers) about a week ago. It said he may be available but the cost would be steep. The thought surprised me - I don't know what, if anything, they have coming up the shortstop pipeline.
Here's Bob Nightengale in late-September:
Stephen Drew-SS- Diamondbacks Sep. 26 - 3:39 pm et
According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, in an effort to upgrade their pitching, the Diamondbacks will listen to offers for Stephen Drew.
Nightengale names the prospect-rich Red Sox among the teams that may have interest in the 26-year-old shortstop. After a breakout season in 2008, Drew has regressed to a .259/.323/.430 line with 12 homers and 59 RBI in 498at-bats. The Diamondbacks may look to deal him before negotiating a long-term deal with his agent Scott Boras.

"All in" better not mean Carlos Marmol.
Man, patience is a virture here. Get teams like NYY and ChC to start bidding against each other and we could come away golden.

I don't think the Cubs have enough to get Granderson. Unless people love Josh Vitters (the bidding would really start with Starlin Castro) or Granderson's reputation among execs is a lot lower than we think it is.

I feel we need elite talent more than any specific position. Which is why Montero makes sense even though we have a great 1B, and Hughes makes sense even though the organization has a good set of young starters.
I'm afraid if we trade for position "need", we're going to fall short. The aim should be to stockpile top young talent regardless of where they play. We have very few positions that don't need talent infusions, both at the MLB and MiLB levels.

I would do a Marmol, Vitters, Samardzija deal for Granderson. Also Castro has got to be rated above Vitters.....so I think they have enough firepower to get a deal done.
Especially Marmol and Samardzija would allow us to trade Jackson for the CF prospect/player and SS prospect/player.

Peter Gammons just said that the Cubs are out on Granderson, so it's far from all in.

My personal feeling is somehow we are going to end up with Brendan Morrow and Mark Lowe from Seattle. Especially Mark Lowe.....he is a spitting image of DD's type of pitcher.

Wait a minute: So Lynn Henning was right? The Tigers ARE shopping Granderson?
What's that say for the people around here who crucified Henning for daring to suggest that Grandy might be traded?

Agreed. They don't have anybody that excites me that much including Castro. I certainly wouldn't mind having him in the Tigers system but he's not somebody I'd want in a trade for Granderson. I don't know if I could stand Granderson being on the Yankees but there is a lot more promise there if they do deal him.

If you don't get the moon for Granderson, don't trade him.
And this is coming from someone who thinks they should try to trade him now while his value is still high.
