Pretty different players actually....both bring speed to the table, Jackson brings plus defensive potential to the table at all three outfield slots, Ramirez brings plus to plus-plus power potential to the table....Jackson has the better pure hit tool and plate discipline....both have their virtues and their faults. If I'm looking for a replacement in center field, I'd be more inclined to look the way of Jackson than Ramirez.

For Cabrera, they would like a young MLB ready SS and top young MLB pitcher. The tigers need left side of the diamond players and every team can use top young SP arms. The Bo sox have some young arms, but not the left side of the infield help. It is nto a good match, unless the Tigers were looking to unload the contract.

Just heard on mlb.com (radio show) that rumors have surfaced saying Mets got Edwin Jackson. Anyone hear anything on this?

They have that kid from Cuba, but he's not close. They have the talent to pull it off, but I would doubt the Tigers would deal him to unload the contract. It would have to be an unbelievable deal, both in talent and financially.

So who do the Mets have, keeping in mind that it's pitching DD supposedly wants? And MLB ready pitching, at that.

He loved Pelfrey coming out. Not that he'd be enough, or even that I'd like him, but something to consider.

I think a package for Cabrera would at the very least include an MLB-ready starter like Clay Buchholz or Michael Bowden, Lars Anderson, and a young infielder like Yamaico Navarro or Oscar Tejeda.

I just don't see the Yankees trading a guy like Montero, who looks every bit like a Miggy-in-the-making. That said...they are the Yankees.

Jon Niese? Pelfrey would actually make sense. Here's crossing your fingers that the Mets would part with Jenrry Mejia.

I think Niese is underrated. IIRC he got hurt at the end of last season but it wasn't an arm thing. Ankle maybe?

I'd want Wilmer Flores tossed in. Maybe FMart involved?

I like Niese. He and Pelfrey would be a nice return.

Looking at the Red Sox and their minor league organization, I just can't see any sort of reasonable deal for Cabrera.

Indeed, I think it's a very, very hard thing to put together a package that gets a guy like Cabrera in a value for value trade (rather than a salary dump).

For instance, I wouldn't trade Cabrera for any pitcher in baseball. Maybe I'm crazy, but I would not do any 1-1 deal for the best pitchers in the game.

My prediction is that the Tigers internet community will not be happy about the return. I don't know what it is but I think the visceral reaction will be to hate it.

I don't like Pelfrey. Niese is okay but I wouldn't deal Jackson for him. Like has been said before, the Tigers should be exercising patience with a Jackson trade. The Mets do not feel like a good fit.

The fit for Jackson is where DD feels it is, not us. Let us remember, this time last year, we all weren't sold on the return of one Edwin Jackson ... for Matt Joyce.

I am okay with any deal DD makes.

You guys are not exciting me with your Mets prospects... so far, not at all.

I'll take Jose Reyes, please.

Hey guys, I'm actually at the Winter Meetings (hotel lobby right now), pretty crazy here.

I'm here with another MLB team (part of my internship), but I'm still more interested in Tigers news. If I get any free time or hear anything I don't see reported, I'll try to post.

Sources: Tigers close to trading starter Jackson — 3:06 p.m.

The Tigers are close to trading right-hander Edwin Jackson, according to major-league sources.

The identity of the team is not known, but both the Diamondbacks and Mariners are known to have interest.

The Brewers, Mets and Dodgers are not on Jackson, sources said. -- Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi

So he is close to being dealt...but not to any of the teams we thought he would...Morrow might still be a possibility from the Mariners...don't really know the D'backs prospects too well though.

The MLive report re Grandy & EJ to NYY seems to be stretching the underlying Chicago Trib. article quite a bit. It really doesn't say a deal is imminent.

That just links to the same MLive report, which is misreading the Chicago Tribune. Just because the Yankees are hot for Grandy (which is what the Trib. reported) doesn't mean a deal is imminent.

Just to be clear, I'm not criticizing you for your post, cruzer, just taking issue with the MLive report.
