Bob Nightengale, via Twitter, claims we're close to dealing Jackson, and hoping to deal Granderson later this week.

Edit: Perhaps as early as today for Jackson. A week out for a Grandy deal seems like a long time. If there were really something in the works wouldn't it be sooner?

Later in the week could be tomorrow for all we know.

According to Billfer, the Tigers traded Rapada for PTBNL, and outrighted Simons. And signed Brad Thomas.

If that deal is on the table, you have to stop and think seriously about talking more with that as the basis....you really do.
I have to agree with this. I might ask for Zach McAllister or Mark Melancon in addition as solid bullpen prospects to round this deal out.

But a deal where you get Montero and Hughes is a deal you have to consider.

• Finally, free agent and former Tigers reliever Doug Brocail, whose $2.85 million option for 2010 was declined by the Houston Astros, said he was in Detroit this past weekend.

Doug Brocail, Dec. 4: "...maybe a revival a decade later with the Tigers? Who knows?

• I don't want to read into this too much, but it's looking like Dombrowski is really searching for a low cost veteran reliever to bulk Detroit's bullpen. Curtain call to Bless You Boys' Ian Casselberry.

Please, Crosby and Brocail? Could this get any worse?

Was Brad Thomas added to the 40 man or was he just a minor league signing?

It doesn't? Simons designated and Rapada gone? Thomas didn't get a major league deal, did he?

Rapada and Simmons off the 40-man.

I'd be surprised if Thomas signed a big league deal, but even if he did it opens up 1 additional spot.

I can't imagine Thomas was offered a major league deal...

Brad Thomas Minor League Statistics & History - Baseball-Reference.com

I have a question about trades involving a PTBNL, both sides agree to a certain "list" of players that could be used to finish out the deal correct? What is the time-table for Detroit to choose a PTBNL and if my assumption about a "list" of players be agreed upon, is this list even given to the public?

Shouldn't someone be posting some kind of stupid hoax thread about Jackson and/or Granderson getting dealt now?

I'm starting to get a sinking feeling about what we're going to get for Jackson. There is no prize for making trades on the first day of the winter meetings.

Hopefully I'm wrong and they really capitalize on their small number of valuable trade chips.

Does the signing of a hard throwing lefty mean there will be no Jackson trade for Sherrill?

I hope there won't be a trade of that ilk. Unless they throw in Dee Gordon and others.

Here is a question since I keep hearing how much the Red Sox love Miggy. What would you guys think Tigers could get for him? What if we do get Montero does this make the Tigers not feel as bad as trading Miggy?

I doubt it. Thomas seems like a minor league invite for a major league chance. Not a sure thing. The Tigers could use the third lefty if Seay is being used to close some games.

BostonHerald.com - Blogs: Clubhouse Insider» Blog Archive » Leyland: No Tigers fire sale

Quote:
Leyland: No Tigers fire sale

INDIANAPOLIS – Red Sox fans dreaming of Miguel Cabrera hitting between Victor Martinez and Kevin Youkilis should probably turn their attention elsewhere.

Speaking as plainly and directly as he has throughout his lengthy career as a straight-shooting manager, Tigers skipper Jim Leyland today shot down the possibility of Detroit being big sellers this winter.

Asked about the rumors surrounding his team while smoking a cigarette outside the Marriott in chilly Indy, Leyland did not mince words.

“You can stop right there,” he said. “All they are is rumors. We’ve assured everyone of this: Anyone who thinks the Detroit Tigers are having a fire sale is foolish. Because we’re not. I can assure you of that and I’ll leave it at that. Anything else you have you should direct to the general manager.”

The Tigers have become one of the central teams of this offseason’s rumor mill because of Detroit’s depressed economy and its impact on the team’s bottom line. With reports suggesting that not only are the Tigers hemorrhaging money, but that their situation is only going to worsen, everyone from All-Star starter Edwin Jackson to All-Star center fielder Curtis Granderson to the prime jewel of all, Cabrera, has been considered fair game to be dealt.

Cabrera would be an obvious fit with the Red Sox because of his youth (26) and insane production (career 162-game averages of .311-33-117). The $126 million remaining on the final six years of his contract would be the only reason for the Tigers to trade him.

But Leyland didn’t make it sound like Cabrera would be going anywhere this winter, waving off followup questions about what kind of impact Cabrera can have on a lineup.

“Stop. Stop,” he said. “We’re not going there. You’ve got your judgements and I’ve got mine. I know he’s a great player, and I’m sure you feel the same way.”

How does Austin Jackson compare to Wilkin Ramirez? Isn't he pretty redundant in a trade with the Yankees?

I wouldn't trade Granderson for anything less than Hughes, Montero and Kennedy (or another arm).
