Default Hessman in Toledo

They're trying to get him to all 9 positions today. Right now he's playing 3B in the 5th inning, and has all three outfield spots and pitcher to go. He played catcher in the first.

Also - Kevin Hooper did it for the Hens back in 2005.

It's a minor league game with a player that couldn't cut it in the Bigs.

Am I missing something? It's happened in Toledo before with no namers. Does Hessman want to be the "biggest" no namer in Toledo to do it?

That's not the point. It's an exciting event to have occur because very few guys can say that they've accomplished it. Don't be such a negative nancy about it.

Hessman's had a great minor league career. This kind of caps it off. Nice gesture.

That's for sure. He just hit his 200th career minor league homerun last night. That's a ton for minor leagues...so not sure if that's a good or bad thing.

Never thought I'd be saying this, but I agree with Jake here.

Good for Hessman. I wonder if this is the end for him?

I'm pretty sure he pitched in a game earlier this year and induced three outs on three pitches.

Wish Rodney could do that.

That's probably about 200 more than most of us have hit in the minors.

He wasn't so lucky tonight. Gave up two runs in the 9th (1 unearned) and the Hens lost 12-11.

I hope the Tigers bring him up when Toledo's season is over. He is the best option to spell Inge when that knee needs to be rested.

Sheesh. Did someone piss in your Cheerios? It's a neat little curiosity in an otherwise meaningless AAA game. It's fun, no one gets hurt, and Hessman and his teammates get a memory.

Hessman has hit 311 career homers in the minors.

Mike Hessman - The Baseball Cube

Mike is second, I think, in career minor league homers if you exclude un-affiliated Mexican League players. He has the most homers in at least the last 60 plus years for a minor leaguer on clubs affiliated with a major league team.
