Wow. Maybe Laird is already done on the basis of defense alone. Haha.

This will be interesting to see. Especially if Avila starts taking away playing time from Laird.

Pointless unless Laird plays a lot less
Start Matt Young at every position

You know, I can usually predict the moves Ken Holland and Joe Dumars will make. And, I could always predict who Matt Millen was going to draft. I can never predict what the Tigers front office will do with regards to calling up prospects. I'm shocked by the Avila call up.

Those in the know -- is he ready? I assume they wouldn't bring him up and not play him on a somewhat regular basis (at least Thursdays and Sundays?)
Either way, I'm excited to see him play2009 Piston: Rip Hamilton - Guard

Have to wonder how much of these moves, Ramirez first and now Avila is a search for offense. Desparation on the part of Leyland?

Avila might just end up being stapled to the bench like Ryan was.

Strange since Avila has really been struggling lately. Lambert has been very good the past couple months.
I don't understand the way they handled Ryan considering they sat him for a week or two at a time. What did they expect him to do with such limited playing time? Calling up Ramirez for a game at a time is ridiculous.

Avilla hit .220 in July and has slumped badly for a month. A little curious, but Ryan was not a Leyland favorite.

I don't like this if Avila doesn't get playing time. If he's on the bench like Ryan, it'd be a terrible move. He should be getting the most playing time possible.

We probably won't have to wait long to see Avila. He probably plays tomorrow night. Nice to see Lambert get the call but I am somewhat surprised they are taking him over Simons.

If this was a desperation move for offense...I think it's going in the wrong way...Ramirez brings much more to the table from an offensive standpoint than Avila. I would have rather kept Ramirez up and also bring Avila up for Ryan.

I wonder if Wilkin left his car idling in the parking lot during the game...or maybe just double-parked outside.

I don't get this move at all. It looks like a desperation move to me.

Tinkering with the roster and trying out rookies in the middle of a pennant race seems like a bad idea.

The other question, and maybe I'm off base here, but why not Sizemore? Looking at the players in Erie and Toledo he seems like the one player most ready to contribute in Detroit. Why not give him a one day shot....kid deserves it IMO.

Are there any other catching options? Maybe Ryan's a disaster with the pitchers, to the point where they don't feel comfortable with him out there, but know that Laird needs to rest 2 games a week.
For a desperation move how about........ release Maggs and call up Casper Wells?.

The other thing not being discussed is Laird's reaction to this. IF, IF Avila is not going to sit on the bench ala Ryan Laird can't be too happy. As we saw in Texas he didn't handle this type of situation too well.
