Good move if they didn't give up any top prospects, he's obviously not really that good, but with our defense and big outfield he can be a nice #3 or 4 starter.
Start Matt Young at every position

To be honest, I'm not sure I like this all that much if it means we're not getting a bat. I was one of the few here that loved our rotation as it is but I don't see how this is going to help all the 2-1 games we lose.
Does anyone think we may still trade for a bat?

French and Robles
Jim Leyland talking about Rod Carew: “I was just talking to Rod Carew. He and I broke in together in 1964, in Cocoa Beach and Melbourne, Fla. He went on to get 3,000 hits, and I went on to backup catcher in Double-A. He’s in the Hall of Fame. I’m sitting here having a Marlboro."

I'll reserve judgment until I see the cost.
Ajax is a number 8 hitter at best.

French and Robles? Wow, nice! I don't mind that at all and it's nowhere near the price I thought it'd be. What's the ceiling on Robles though? His K/BB in the minors is outstanding.

mlbtraderumors.com says Luke French and another prospect....Larish? French and Larish would be fine to lose
Put me on record. Prince Fielder will still OPS 850+ in years 7-8-9 of this contract. (sucks that my signature has to stay this for 7 years now)

Lucas French is one.
I hope they do something on the other side of the ball.Last edited by chasfh; 07-31-2009 at 11:39 AM.

French and Robles is a completely fair price. I love this deal.

I believe he's a Type B free agent after this year, which is ok. The Tigers will likely offer arbitration.

And they still have some pieces to get a bat. Good deal.

French and Robles seems like a fair deal, can't say I'm delighted about trading French because it means Porcello is staying in the rotation, but it's not like he was a high ceiling guy.
Start Matt Young at every position

Just heard this on The Herd. If it's French & Larish/Robles I'm good with that.

The back end of our rotation an hour ago was Galarraga, Porcello and French.
Now it's Washburn, Galarraga, Porcello.
That's a massive upgrade. Massive.
