Default Behind the scenes with Fox Sports Detroit

Mods - I know my site feed gets posted above so if this isn't cool, feel free to delete the thread. I just don't know if everybody reads that section.

Last Friday night I had the opportunity to go behind the scenes and see how the crew at FS Detroit takes a game and gets it into your living room.

I wrote about the night over 2 different posts (because I wrote a lot).

Here is part 1:
My night with Fox Sports Detroit

and part 2:
My night with Fox Sports Detroit – continued

Bill, this is some of your best writing. Thanks for a look inside the operating room. Kudos you even made Rod look smart.

You know, I think what you posted is incorrect, and so I disagree with it, but that's ok because we're all Tigers fans and that's all that matters.

The graphics folks (Kelly Wehrmeister and Eric Date), well they do the graphics.

Thanks for the remarkable insight!

(Seriously though, great job, enjoyable and informative.)

Thanks guys. It was a lot of fun. From seeing how stuff works, to spending a chunk of the Tigers BP in the dugout, to visiting the booth. It was just awesome. I probably could have gone on for another 1000 words.

What a cool experience! Thanks for sharing, Billfer.

About three years ago, I got to spend a little time in a couple production trucks, one for ESPNU and one for College Sports Network. It really is amazing to see all of the work and teamwork that goes into putting on a live sports telecast. Sometimes when I see things happening during a telecast, I'll imagine how it all came together in the truck.

This part?

"The truck would make the same comments many of us would make while sitting and watching the game with friends."

Does this include the cussing?

Really, really great piece. Very well done, written and thought out. And to meet Willie? Well, I would be in heaven.....

As much as the people in the truck may be fans, I doubt those of us who frequent the game threads would do a very good job producing a telecast...

(Opposing team gets a base hit.) "Game over." graphic appears on screen.

Thanks. Well, this particular game was a pretty clean game from the Tiger perspective so there wasn't too much need for frustration, but Rodney did make things a little more interesting than they needed to be.

From my experience with college sports, it includes the swearing and then some.
