When will the Tigers make a Trade?
Everyone has been talking about this. When will the Tigers make a move? What do we need? Who will they go after? What will they do to make the line-up better?

Just a minute while I gaze into my crystal ball...
edit: it told me your guess is as good as anyone else's. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Unfortunately, their needs are pretty big. A fourth/fifth starter and someone to protect Miggy.
I see them filling one of the two spots but not both.

Lance Parrish was Tina Turners body guard ... he's probably available.

I don't expect much if any moves to be made to be honest. DD for whatever reason hasn't made those type of deals the past few years. (I don't count Sean Casey, Neifi Perez or Kyle Farnsworth as any type of upgrade.)

Probably the day of the trade deadline for a corner outfielder. They will at least acquire another outfielder and they may get another starter.

It feels like they will wait and see what they get from Guillen. I wouldn't agree with it, but that's what it feels like to me.
I think they have tried almost everyone in the system and no one stands out as an everyday corner outfield with the power they need behind Miggy. I have always thought Thames was way too inconsistent to be counted on in that spot. I would like to see him hit 5th or 6th and either DH or platoon with Clete. For this reason, I would hope a trade is made sooner than later. I feel like due diligence has been done within the organization. If they feel like they want to make a run this year, a trade has to be made.
I have no idea what the cost would be, but I would like to see Dave target a Holliday type to bat cleanup and either DH or take over LF.
A 5th starter would be nice if they could get one fairly cheap, but I am fairly comfortable with our pitching the rest of the way if they stood pat.
Consistent run production is the biggest weakness IMHO. I thnk a bat could be added without sacrificing the defense that has been assembled. If it replaces Maggs or Thames in the outfield, it would actually be an improvement. I will be disappointed if the team remains quiet through the trade deadline.

I expect zero moves will be made. The Tigers just don't have a lot to trade at this point. Unless someone wants to give up a proven 40-homer guy for Dontrelle. Fat chance of that happening.

I actually think they will make a pretty big move. They're about to eat a lot of money and Mike is going to want to win NOW. They'll throw in guys like Figaro (hence the showcase), Strieby, etc., and take on another crappy contract that will actually add some production. I think it'll be a move that will set the organization back a bit for the need to win now, but I think they'll do it.

It could happen. I just can't see us pull off a blockbuster. I can almost guarantee that we will acquire a corner outfielder, though. I'm just not sure it will be a sexy name that everyone knows or wants.

So like a Renteria type trade of last year.

Tigers don't have a Miller or Maybin in their farm system right now, closest thing is Porcello and he's an important part of this team so there will be no Cabrera type deal.

They'll make a trade on July 31st. Right now, not enough teams have fallen out of the race to create any kind of buyer's market.

I hear the Diamondbacks are looking at Dan Haren for Howie Kendrick and Brandon Wood.
In a perfect world, I'd love to trade Ramirez, Crosby and a Relief Prospect for Haren an then turn him for Wood/Kendrick. But that won't happen so don't worry bout it.

I think they will make a Sean Casey type acquisition right before the deadline. Hopefully, it will be someone better than Casey but I think it will be an older veteran hitter in his contract year.

And the Tigers don't have a Jair Jurjjens and a Gorkys Hernandez in their system, so there won't be a Renteria-type deal either.

I think the best the Tigers can hope for is Dunn, and he probably wouldn't play OF for the Tigers, which means Thames / Guillen / Thomas are going to have to upgrade the OF in such a scenario.

To answer the question, the Tigers will make a trade when they find a deal that they feel will improve the team.

I'm actually crossing my fingers for the Tigers to go after Ben Sheets if all checks out well. I'm not sure who that extra bat might be, but Guillen might give us a bit of a boost if he comes back healthy ...

Why would you give up Haren for anything if you got him? He's really cheap for being a top 5 starter in baseball.

I think they'll try to swing a corner OF. I just hope they don't give up 3 players for a 1/2 a season rent-a-guy. I doubt they solidify their pitching with a trade, though. Too tough to do that. Most teams aren't giving up productive pitchers.

Don't totally disagree.... with one possible exception... Washington Nationals. They are out of contention and have shown they are willing to trade current major leaguers for prospects with upside.
I still like their LH Starting pitcher, Lannan. Here are his stats for this year:
Player TEAM W L ERA G GS CG SHO SV SVO IP H R ER HR HBP BB SO
1. J Lannan
WSH 6 5 3.45 17 17 1 0 0 0 107.0 106 47 41 12 6 38 48
Age 25
I could see Washington trading him for 3 decent prospects like Crosby, Green, Ramirez.... something like that.

In an unprecedented move the Tigers will sign Barry Bonds to DH and move Marcus to LF.

You got a team in 1st place with an owner that wants to win. Yes a trade will be made, and it will be a blockbuster....

I hope you're not serious. I suspect the reason Barry hasn't tried a comeback is because he failed a drug test and a suspension would have to be served first. If he doesn't come back, he can continue to deny with a straight face all of the allegations.

Aubrey Huff available? He can play 3B/1B/DH, spelling Brandon, who seems to be hurting/slowing

Id like to see them go after Juan Pierre now that Manny is back he may want a chance to play everyday and might be cheaper then some of the other options out there. Getting on base at a good rate this year (.380obp). Would allow us to move Grandy down to drive in runs as he is not setting the table well this year. Would also be able to end the Josh Anderson experiment. I believe that he may be able to be had for something like Raburn and a minor league pitcher like Satterwhite or a starter instead of a RP like Hamilton. Raburn would have a lot of value to an NL team as a bench player being able to play multiple positions.

I know this team is contending but they're getting Josh Hamilton back on Monday and the Rangers have 5 OF's now.
Hamilton
Cruz
Byrd
Murphy
Andruw Jones
David Murphy would be a nice upgrade, seems like he might be a guy that might be out of the rotation.

Are you willing to pay him 9 mil a season for 2 more years (if my math is correct)?

Dear. God. No.
Fun Juan Pierre facts:
May avg/obp/slg/ops:
.369/.435/.505/.940
June slash line:
.264/.319/.309/.628
The guy had one hot month, don't get suckered in. Raburn is a more complete player and would provide more value. If we offered Raburn for Pierre straight up, Colletti would jump at the opportunity to get out from under that contract.

The Padres just gave Scott Hairston away. He would have been a nice addition.
Hitting would be a distant third on my Tigers wish list, however. Starting pitching and relief pitching are much more pressing needs.
