Default Listening/Watching the Tigers today on my iPhone

So I finally bought the new iPhone app, MLB At Bat 2009. And I am incredibly impressed! I can listen to any live game feed for the visitor or the home team. I've been listening to the Twinkies broadcasters (since I detest Jim Price doing play by play). It's priced fair I think at $9.99 for the season. I just wanted to recommend it to anyone with an iPhone or iPod Touch. Here are some pictures of today's game:

Also, every day they choose a couple games where you can stream the video live over the iphone! But, as you can see below, they are really good at updating video clips of plays as the game is happening:

Great Baseball App

We talked about this back at the beginning of the season too. This really is a great app, and I use it pretty much every day. The addition of video just makes it even better.

Yes, it is a remarkably affordable way to follow your out-of-town favorite team. I'm pretty sure the prices will go up next year, this year they are just getting us hooked on it like junkies.

Keep a look out for temperature:

Overheating iPhone 3GS: Apple blames the weather - Telegraph

Overheating iPhone 3GS: Apple blames the weather

Apple has admitted that its latest iPhone 3GS model can overheat but has blamed the problem on sunshine rather than a glitch with its design.

By Justin Williams
Published: 8:44AM BST 03 Jul 2009

Technology sites and Apple forums have been indundated with comments about the new model overheating and becoming discoloured since it was launched on June 19. Some iPhone users have complained that the device has become too hot to hold to the ear during long calls while others have noticed that the white 32GB model has turned pink after overheating.
In a warning posted on one of the California computer maker's support knowledge base sites, Apple says that users should not leave their phones in a car where temperatures can exceed the -20C to 45C range that the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS models were designed to function in.

Apple says in the support article that "if the interior temperature of the device exceeds normal operating temperatures, you may experience the following as it attempts to regulate its temperature: the device stops charging, display dims, and/or weak cellular signal".
In its message, Apple says that the iPhone has a safety feature which warns users that the device is becoming too hot. As well as leaving the handset in a car, it says that the phone may overheat when left in direct sunlight for prolonged periods, when GPS tracking is used in a car on a hot day or when its iPod function is used in direct sunlight.

If the warning appears, Apple says that users of the iPhone should turn the device off and allow it to cool before using it.
iPhone 3GS users on Mac forums complain, however, that the handset becomes hot when it is not being used in a car. In a posting on the macrumors.com forum, one user complained that using the new device's video recording feature had caused it to overheat while another complained that after carrying his phone in a backpack, it got so hot that the plastic case became distorted with tiny bumps.

The MLB app is available for the Blackberry Bold, I have it, have used the audio but not sure the video works. But at least in my part of Canada, our providers don't provide unlimited packages so the price of listening to a game unless on wi-fi could be obscene.

Rogers has a 6GB package, I don't think streaming audio would really be that much would it?

This should be made available for the Android operating system as well. Right now just the T-Mobile G1 runs Android but there's slated to be a slew (18+) of Android powered phones in the second half of this year.

It really is pretty great. I watch a couple innings of the game last night on the train home.

I tried watching the game the other day, but I live it Toledo so it was blacked out. Bummer... I still love the app though. Watched the condensed version of the 16 inning marathon with my 4 year old in about 20 minutes.

so Tiger games are blacked out for those of us that are local to the stadium? That kinda blows...

Yeah, but it's not often that you'd be able to watch them on the app anyway.

Condensed games and gameday audio is where this app shines

My wife and I bought each other iPhone 3GS's for our birthdays. The MLB app is pretty much the only one I use. We were at the game last night and although the phonecast was blacked out, we were able to watch the highlight videos shortly after the plays. I love the fact of getting detailed game information on out-of-town games instead of just looking at the score on the auxiliary board in right field. You can't beat it for $10.

The live video is blacked out, but not the audio feeds. They only have a game or two each day that has the video anyway. You do get quick "video highlights" of big plays (scoring plays mostly) soon after they happen.

cool, I'm more worried about the audio.

I love the NFL condensced games, looking forward to these!

Thanks for your info!

The app just updated for me.

It appears the good news is that you can stream video for all out of market games now.

The bad news is that the ones that aren't games of the day require an mlb-tv subscription.

(I knew $10 streaming video was too good to be true).

EDIT: And worse yet the damn Twins have a 10-run lead.
EDIT to EDIT: Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha (A's 14- Twins 13)

I'm using the app to listen/watch more Tigers games now that I am on FSN. The highlights will all update withing a minute or two of the event. On any given night you will usually end up with 7-10 45 second video highlights as the game unfolds.
