There should be a vote of somesort where we come up with one official MTS Tiger nickname that only MTS posters would know of, like Dash Anderson. If this idea sucks then carry on, I'm just throwin it out there.

"The People's Champion" Curtis Granderson. I think this nicely sums up how many of us feel about him.

Miguel "The Cobra" Cabrera. When he strikes, it's lethal for the opposition. I think it's got a nice ring to it. Since he won the King Tiger award last year, we could even amend it to Miguel "King Cobra" Cabrera.

Carlos "The Gimp" Guillen. Well, he is.

Brandon "Spike" Inge. He needs a tough sounding nickname to compensate for that babyface of his. Ha.

Gerald "Pudge" Laird. Hey, it's not like the nickname originated with Ivan Rodriguez.

Adam "Eve" Everett. I think it works on two levels. Not only is the nickname the first three letters of his last name, you've got the reference to the Garden of Eden's most famous and infamous couple.

Josh "Spanky" Anderson. George Anderson didn't go by George, so why should Josh Anderson go by Josh? (Yeah, I'm conveniently forgetting that there was once a Matt Anderson.)

Ramon "Go-Go" Santiago. When he's in the game, I like to cheer for him by yelling "Go! Go! Santiago!"

Justin "Sunshine" Verlander. Even when he has a lousy outing, he's trying to find something positive to take from it.

"Slick Rick" Porcello. Someone's got to have a nickname that rhymes with the first name.

Ryan "Wildfire" Perry. Out of all my suggestions, I could actually see this catching on. He's a fireballer, but he can be wild. Put that together and you get "Wildfire".

"Bad News" Bobby Seay. That's what he's been to the opposition so far this season.

Brandon "The Detroit Lion" Lyon. Pretty self-explanatory all the way around.

"The Roller Coaster" Fernando Rodney. He's going to live up to it at some point.

Placido Polanco and Magglio Ordonez already have cool names. Nicknames aren't really necessary, although "Polly" and "Maggs" will suffice.

Jeremy Bonderman and Joel Zumaya already have "Bondo" and "Zoom" (or "Zoom Zoom"), so they're covered. We're already calling Armando Galarraga "GaGa", so I guess he's covered. Marcus Thames has already been dubbed "Country Strong", so he's covered. "E-Jack" could work for Edwin Jackson. You've got to have one of those kinds of nicknames somewhere.

I've decided the others will have to go without nicknames.

Some good ones here, thus a bump for the thread.

    My favorites:

]"The People's Champion" Curtis Granderson. At first I thought it would be too unweildy, but something "and the People's Cahmpion runs it down for the third out" works out just fine.
Miguel "The Cobra" Cabrera. Fun to say, as long as no one tries to do something to the tune of Copacabana. (On the other hand, since Cabrera plays in CoPa . . . nevermind).
Ryan "Wildfire" Perry. As long as he doesn't rage out of control.
Brandon "The Detroit Lion" Lyon. Spot on. Hope both turn it around.

whenever my bro and i watch games.. we've developed our own nicknames for players.

mr. mom = ryan raburn... just because we think he somewhat resembles michael keaton.

puma = sometimes goes to cabrera... heard an announcer call him that once and i liked it.

grande son = granderson.. a horrible play on words.. but just shows that i except big greatness from him.

Wow! Didn't realize it's been a couple years since we played around with this thread. I was reminded of it when I saw this a bit ago...

Your guide to Tigers reliever nicknames Beck's Blog

And you thought the Tigers bullpen lost its character when Phil Coke became a starter.

Daniel Schlereth is out there, and as it turns out, he’s a character. So is Brad Thomas, and so, apparently, is Brayan Villarreal.

Schlereth announced today that he wants to be known by his nickname, the Alaskan Assassin. He was born in Anchorage, so that makes sense. He also has been nicknamed the Baby Black Bear.

I told him that could be quite a tandem, the Alaskan Assassin and Agent P, otherwise known as Ryan Perry, or the Platypus. But Perry has earned a new nickname in the Tigers bullpen. After his DL stint with an eye infection, he’s now known as Cyclops.

On down the line it went. Brayan Villarreal? He’s known as Zorro, Schlereth said, because of the hair.

Al Alburquerque? Schlereth didn’t have one for him, but Villarreal said he’s known as Avatar, after the characters from the movie.

Jose Valverde? They don’t really need a nickname, or at least they don’t dare put one of him. But when Big Potato was mentioned, Valverde nodded in approval.

Brad Thomas? Nothing. They just make fun of the Aussie accent.

    Joaquin Benoit? Nothing yet.

Offbeat? You bet. But look at it this way: It sure beats those mohawk haircuts Tigers relievers had last year around this time.

I call Benoit dysentery because he gives other teams the runs.
Brad Thomas can be Ova' because when he pitches it's a sign the game is Ova'
There are 30 MLB teams so each one should win the World Series on average once every 30 years.

Of the ones I came up with a couple years ago, I still like these...

Carlos "The Gimp" Guillen. Well, he is.

"Slick Rick" Porcello. Someone's got to have a nickname that rhymes with the first name.

Ryan "Wildfire" Perry. Out of all my suggestions, I could actually see this catching on. He's a fireballer, but he can be wild. Put that together and you get "Wildfire".
Haven't thought of any for the newer guys yet. Maybe inspiration will strike when I'm listening to the game later.

Also hadn't realized that Schlereth was born in Alaska. I checked baseball-reference.com, and there are only 11 born Alaskans that have ever played the game. Our "Alaskan Assassin" is the first of them to play for the Tigers.

It's too bad we don't have "Da Meat Tree" on the roster anymore... but here's a possibly replacement:

    Miguel "Cab-Rare-Ah" Cabrera

Cab, because he should be using one, not driving himself.
Rare, 'cause, well, he's a rare player. Very few of his skill level.
Ah, because that's what you say when he hits a home run... "Ahhhh.... that was a thing of beauty!"

So, there you have it: "Cab-Rare-Ah"

That is good, though I still like the human white flag for Brad.

I usually mutter "alligator arms" whenever Inge swings and misses on a slider off the plate. I get to say that a lot.

    How about 'The Copa Cobra'?

Ever since Ryan Perry came in against the White Sox in early April a few years ago (may have been his debut, actually), I have referred to him as "The Head Hunter" for throwing a pitch that nearly beheaded a White Sox player (can't remember who...might've been Josh Fields). He's had some wildness since then to justify it.
