Do Tigers stand pat at Trade Deadline?
Do they even have enough bargaining chips to get a player? Do they need a Player? Thoughts?

They could always add Bonds without parting with a player....

I would think if anything the Derrick Lowe or AJ Burnett suggestions make sense and only at the right price. However with the way Burnett's pitching he may pitch his way out of our price range. I would think Jeff Larish would be centerpiece of any deal on our end.

I think they may make a minor move or two. If they get anyone it might be a end of rotation starter.

They should go after Lowe or Maddux so long as they don't have to give up too much.

Well, he would have to earn the league minimum... but he could always donate it.
Not that I've heard him say anything specific regarding this issue.
And YES, for the record, I still would like to see BB in the Olde English D... Especially since we can't seem to avoid the injury bug this year.

I think Larish has a limit to his upside. If he was the centerpiece of a deal I wouldn't lose
too much sleep. (Watch him pull a Pena then)2012 & 2013 Adopt A Tiger: Dean Green (Lakeland Flying Tigers)

It looks like the offense is all set. I agree, another starter would be nice. Bonine has been good but in the long run, he probably will not replace Bondo. Lowe would be a fantastic pick up. As long as they do not part with too much.

i'd prefer Paul Byrd, guy kills us in comerica and I remember his last comment about knowing he was in a big park and just throwing strikes and doing his thing
Put me on record. Prince Fielder will still OPS 850+ in years 7-8-9 of this contract. (sucks that my signature has to stay this for 7 years now)

I think they'll make a strong push for Freddie Garcia, assuming of course he proves he's healthy. This will be mainly due to the fact that he'll cost them nothing but dollars (i.e no prospects). Maddux would be nice, but I doubt he'll come here and he'll cost more than the Tigers are willing/able to part with. I think Lowe might be available and I think they could afford him, but I'm not sure if he'll be much of an improvement over the guys we have in there now. Burnett will be out of our price range, as will Sabathia. Bonds, again I say no. The last thing this lineup needs is another old and post-steroidal injury susceptible guy, even with the OPS he'll bring when healthy. I can't see much other movement for this team.

I think Willis's progress over the next 3 weeks plays a role in whether they stand pat.

I don't think the Tigers have nearly enough to trade for anything good.
Derek Lowe would be a solid addition if the Dodgers are out it at the end of July, but I don't see what the Tigers have to trade. The one thing the Dodgers don't need is outfielders. Maybe something including Hollimon.Ajax is only the third most valuable tiger.

I would look at Joe Blanton if Oakland tanks, being his numbers this year are pretty bad, though his second half numbers over his career are good.
EDIT; wow .. okay, his numbers the past two years after the All-Star break haven't been that good, though the year that sprung to mind - 2005.
Ws - 7
Ls - 5
IP - 102.0
Ks - 69
ERA - 2.65
WHIP - 1.16
I know that's one year, three years ago .. though the gamble, for the right price .. could be worth it.Last edited by JonBenke; 07-01-2008 at 03:33 PM.

I'd like us to trade for Greinke. I see where the Phillies are extremely interested, but, what would the Royals want for him?

How can we get us a good #2 catcher along the way?
Do the Rangers need to trade any of theirs? what would they be looking for? An Eddie Bonine or Aquilino Lopez?

In that case, I'd stay with our guy.
Zack can .............well, I'm sure you've read the '06 spring training stories.
There is a risk it could rear itself again and I personally wouldn't want to take that risk. I know this young man very well and that risk is way more likely to happen than not.
I think we're net better off watching him from a distance. If he continues on the current path, we can all celebrate his accomplishments, but, if the cost is HUGE, I'd pass!

Stand pat. The farm system has been raided enough to get players to compete this year. It's sink or swim with what they got. These guys are either good enough to win it this year or they're not. Don't part with players they'll need to fill the old holes that are about to appear.

Exactly. Especially one player. The more I see of Clete Thomas, the more I like him. I think the dude's got a pretty good future in MLB. I could see him being the full-time LF next year. He might have value at the trade deadline, but I hope DD and JL resist the urge to move him.

As far as Lowe goes, I would be good with that if he doesn't cost too much. He certainly has shown some post-season nads.
I can't believe I'm saying this but, if Sheff goes down again, I'd give Bonds a shot. He did say he would play for the league minimum and donate it to charity. I'd rather see this than bringing up someone like Larish again. No slam against Jeff, just not his time yet.2013 AAT: Casey Crosby

and some of the other guys -- Matt Joyce for example --- maybe they haven't really lit it up, are guys you drafted for a reason, not because you thought you could trade them away after a couple years...
I believe if you are going to go after someone at the trade deadline there should be a two-fold purpose:
a) you need him
2) since you need him, you go after him long term
