Default Time to discuss the bullpen again...

    Jones
    Zymaya
    Rodney
    Bautista
    Miner

I'm pretty sure those guys will be here in about a week at the most (if not sooner). That leaves Seay, Dolsi, Fossum, Lopez, and Rapada fighting for two spots.

I say Rapada stays for sure. After that, do you go with a 2nd lefty? Or keep one of Lopez/Dolsi?

I'm sucking at starting threads today. Could a mod please move this to the Tigers board?

Yeah, you'd figure with all the posts you make that you would know by now which forum is which!!!

Rapada and Dolsi stay, but I think Bautista still has to prove something.

I am hoping Dolsi remains with the team, although he probably stands the one to benefit the most from more time in the minors. I feel that he could really learn a lot from the "on the job" experience and being around pitchers like Zumaya and Rodney. As well as others whose experience could stand to benefit him, because I like his arm. I do hope he works on his delivery somewhat though.

    Not nearly enough.

I don't think Miner goes. Leyland likes him too much. I've been wrong about pretty much everything this year though so that certainly doesn't bode well for him.

I think Dolsi bought himself some time with today's knockout performance. Miner has looked good, too, lately. Dolsi's stuff is simply too good for Triple A.

Agreed. Also, If you have Rodney, Zoom, Jones, Dolsi AND Seay, you really don't have any plausible long relief (for those presumaly rare occasions when the starters falter early).

I'm just thankful that Joba hasn't lit the world on fire as a starter, or we'd have to deal with the 'when is zumaya gonna start threads"

I think Miner should go down, and let him start for a month and toledo and see if he can keep up his good work, then bring him back to replace whichever of the 4 guys sucks the most after Justin (Willis, Nate, Rogers, Galaraga)
Put me on record. Prince Fielder will still OPS 850+ in years 7-8-9 of this contract. (sucks that my signature has to stay this for 7 years now)

    this is tough.

Miner's ERA of late has been too good as far a Jim Leyland will be concerned. But I don't trust him.

Dolsi showed us what he's capable of yesterday, using 97 mph heat to get two huge strikeouts. However, what's to say he's not a flash in the pan?

I'm afraid what's going to happen is that there will be decisions made to keep two and send the others down, and it won't work out. Then they'll trade one of the ones we kept for one that we sent down, etc, etc... I just hope it doesn't translate into more losing.

I would keep Lopez around, because he's one of the few guys that can throw strikes consistently, and he's been DYNAMITE in long relief.

Give Miner regular work at AAA, perhaps try him as a SP one more time. He's getting better but needs more consistency, and I still think his future is going to be as a starting pitcher.

    Jones
    Zoom
    Rodney
Miner (he's earned it, long reliever)
Rapada (lone lefty, Zoom and Rodney lessen need for a second lefty)
    Bautista
Lopez (senior slider could be highly effective in middle relief)

    Down:

    Fossum (struggling)
Dolsi (they'd like him to get experience in the minors, improve his command)
Seay (odd man out and he's been unable to repeat on last year's success)

I wonder if DD will potentially pull a small deal when Zumaya and Rodney are activated by trading away one of the bullpen members that has garnered any interest? Could be risky though to assume both Zumaya and Rodney will stay healthy for the remainder of the season.

Call me crazy, I'd rather see Fossum than Rapada... I just think Fossum would work really well before a hard thrower like Zumaya / Dolsi came in. Dolsi must stay up imo.

But nobody in the bullpen has pitched well really, other than Jones/Lopez. The others have had a flash here and there.

Also, now that Bonderman is out, the Tigers are dangerously thin on starting pitching. Next callup would be probably what, Bonine or Lambert?

Perhaps it's time to groom Miner as a SP again, might need him real soon to take on that role.

Miner goes down to start for 4-6 weeks until the Tigers trade Nate for Taylor Teagarden, then Miner comes up and takes Nate's spot.
Every time you play a hand of you poker you wanna run through a mental check list. Head Position Hand Position Neck Position Breathing Posture. More than 25 items. It's a lot. And that why I've come up with a handy mnemonic device. Just one word: HPHPNPBPECMSPAMDCPAFTSTTL. It's easy.

    Jones
    Zumaya
    Rodney
    Rapada
    Lopez
    Bautista
    Seay

    Down:
    Miner (has an option)
    Dolsi (option)
    Fossum (sucks)

I think Miner will be first up if there is a need for a spot start. Dolsi will be first up if Bautista or Seay are downright terrible. Fossum will easily clear waivers and can be called up if necessary.
Ajax is only the third most valuable tiger.

You're crazy. Fossum and Rapada both have 87 mph fastballs, so your reasoning there is off. Rapada is pretty much the perfect lefty reliever - his arm slot says that lefties should not be able to read him well.

I love Fossum and the eephus he'll drop, but Rapada is better at this point.

I don't think you're crazy. I could see Fossum staying at least temporarily with Rapada going down (option) and Miner going down (option) as Fossum could fill in long relief.

I also think Bautista will have a couple more opportunites to see if he can throw strikes, but if he doesn't, I wouldn't be shocked to see someone like Dolsi kept over him. I do think a lot depends on how they do as a team the next week or so as if they get our act together and win 8 out of 10, I think it is more likely the guy who is playing well stays. However, if they lose 8 of 10, I think the guys with options get sent down even if they aren't the best choice so we can keep as many of those without options as possible.

I should add, I hope Seay has worn out his welcome as he has been terrible this year. I would much rather see Rapada stay than Seay.
