Granderson's Night as a Whitecap
I just got back from seeing Granderson as a West Michigan Whitecap. He went 2 for 4 with an infield hit and a triple. He also made a really nice running catch in left-center field. Here are a few pictures.

His first hit

Running out his easy triple

Headed home on Jim Price's favorite play...the contact play. He was a dead duck.

It was a really cool night.
At the beginning of the Whitecaps games they let little kids run out into position with the starting players. The players do a great job of talking with the kids. After the anthem they head back to their seats. How cool to be the kid who got to run out to centerfield and talk with Curtis Granderson!
I wasn't early enough, but a friend of mine said he got four items autographed by Granderson earlier in the day. Pretty cool!

I've figured out Granderson's weakness. The man can only get three-base hits!

I take it you had some nice weather in Grand Rapids today. It was really nice in CT too. I went to the UConn baseball game today and it was 79 degrees.

I know this is low A, but it should also be noted that Grandy went 2 for 4 on a night when the opposing team's starter allowed 3 hits and no runs in 7 innings. Grandy got half the Whitecaps' hits.

I can now put the Viagra away for a few days .....
Just imagine what this lineup is going to do with Granderson in the leadoff hole. It's going to be scary, scary stuff.

So, if he does well at West Michigan, maybe he'll get to move up to Lakeland in June or so and then depending on injuries and stuff maybe even Erie later on. I'm thinking maybe a September callup when rosters expand, but let's not rush this kid.

I agree this guy has the potential to put up Willy Mays type seasons, without a doubt you don't want to rush him.

Yeah, but he's going to have to earn his spot in CF. Let him, Nook and Brandon battle it out, and may the best man win!

Old Kent - D'oh - Fifth Third Ballpark was definitely packed... much like Kenny's rehab start here last year. It's good to see crowds like that, shows the loyalty of the west side. Good business for the caps. After Granderson's at-bat, lots of people got up and left, though.
I can't imagine how it must feel to be a single-A pitcher and face a big leaguer like that. He dealt for the most part, though.

What is it with this guy. Signs autographs, buys dinner for his class A team while on rehab, donates money (and a lot of his time) to charity, signs a huge contract but eats at McDonalds. I've been following the Tigers for more than 40 years and Curtis seems too good to be true. If everyone followed his example, we would have world peace. Rock on Curtis

During the Tigers' telecast last nite, Rod & Mario kept talking about how Jim Leyland said he wanted Curtis to get 25 ABs on his rehab - but will be evaluated after 3 games to see how he feels. Probably will join the team after the Blue Jays series.

When Brian Moehler pitched a rehab game for the Whitecaps in 1999, he just bought the team pizzas. Outback Steakhouse is better than pizzas!
What a jerk this Moehler guy was.

If I remember correctly, Kenny Rogers treated the team to Prime Rib (or something like that).
