Speaking of photoshopping.......how does one photoshop a picture? Is it a program that can be downloaded?

Photoshopping is easy and there are many books about it the hard part is paying the mass amout for the program. Or you can download it in the not quite legal way. It's up to you but it runs like a couple hundred bucks for the program.

The good news/bad news is Photoshop is probably the best (standard) and does a great job

as an irony --- I got a scanner about five years ago that was a piece of junk for $90, but it came with a beginner level photoshop that was actually worth more than the scanner

Yeah, it's called Photoshop ;) And it runs about $600.

Actually there are cheaper and even free programs out there that you can use for modifying images.

Or sign up for a 1 credit Community College course for about $40 per credit and then you can buy it for around $150 with the student/ Education rate.

No body thinks about this, but it is a genius idea. When I went back to grad school, you got a CD that had MS office on it. Now I don't recommend going in debt of $20K for free MS office, but if you take one course..

Generally when one Photoshops a picture, they do so on Adobe Photoshop. There are other photo editing programs out there, but Photoshop is probably one of the more widely used ones.

EDIT:
I see there have been multiple responses already. There's a freeware version of a program very similar to Photoshop called The Gimp. I don't have any experience with it myself, but I've had some friends who have said it does a very nice job.

I don't know much about the photoshop type programs but there are a lot of amazing free and legal programs out there. I recently downloaded open office and so far I've been able to do everything with it that I could do with the microsoft suite.

I use Open Office in my classroom lab and it is great.

For free graphics there is the GIMP which has a long track record and works well. Also PIcassa is an option.

Hmmm. I'd be wary of that. The Adobe reader thing totally ties up my computer. I dread hitting a link and having the Adobe reader thing pop up. A week of headaches usually happens.

Adobe Reader handles .pdf files. Nothing to do with Photoshop. Best way to handle those is not within the browser - right click and save the file. Then open it up separately.

For some reason .pdf files just do better outside the browser. Must be the nature of the plugin part of it which just works in concert (allegedly) with the browser program.
