The Unofficial Release Jacque Jones Thread (aka the LF discussion thread)
Sorry guys, somebody had to start it, so I'll take the bullet here ....

You know, when we first traded for him, I was comfortable with it. But his swing is terrible. I understand that they wanted another lefty bat, but with Timo being an option, and now with Clete on the team, the acquisition of Jacque Jones really seems unnecessary. I'd rather have Thames, Raburn or Inge in left. I actually really like Inge in the outfield with his speed and arm strength....and he proved that today with the Teahen gundown

That's the first time I've seen the guy play.
Not everyone on your team can hit 30 home runs or bat at least .500.
I think Polanco was 0-for-6 and left a bundle of guys on the bases. We should dump him.

In defense of Yoop, I think this thread is a tongue in cheek thread. Jones didn't look good, but it's about 3 months too soon to be talking about releasing him.

Yep, just another day that a Marcus Thames home run could have really helped out.

I still like Inge at 3rd at Cabrera in left.
However, for that to happen we would need to trade for decent backup catcher unless Wilson can actually come back.
Inge is a great #9 hitter. LOL

No, I really don't want to cut Jacque after one game. My expectations are very low, considering we got him for Omar. But I do think we have better options on the roster.
Can you actually start a thread in a different color?

Let's say he had a bad game. Very Willy Mays Hayes of him with his big uppercut swings on balls 4 feet away from him today. He looked really lost at the plate so he just went with a swing as hard as I can and hope approach. Not so good but we will see...

I'll plead guilty as well. I used this thread title to foster (provoke?) a discussion on our left field situation, while also "lampooning" the negative "March 31st" threads, and failed to make it clear that it was tongue-in-cheek.
I can see where that would be considered trolling, and for doing so I apologize. If a mod could please change the thread title I would be very grateful.
How about "How To Solve A Problem Like Jacque Jones?"
PS I really do need to work on my timing as well, I could see where right after a tough loss some jokes are probably best saved for a rainy day. Again sorry for creating any heartburn.Last edited by DaYooperASBDT; 04-01-2008 at 09:21 AM.

Serious question here - why exactly did Leyland replace Jones with Thomas yesterday? I assume it was a defensive replacement but even there I am surprised because Jones is supposed to be average-plus defensively. Plus, Clete didn't seem to be reading the fly balls very well - catching 2 of them well above his head.
-

I wondered about this as well. I can't figure it out either. Maybe he wanted to give Thomas a chance to play in his first major league game and thought he was just as good defensively. Maybe Clete has a better arm and Leyland wanted someone out there who could gun down the go-ahead run.
Ajax is only the third most valuable tiger.
-
Was wondering about that too, I like the better arm theory. How does Clete's range compare with Jacque?

Haha, I'm right here. I hate to say I told ya so but unless you want a couple foul balls to keep Andy Van Slyke on his toes, Jacque Jones is worthless. Why in the world he is on the team is beyond me. Isn't Timo Perez, Ryan Raburn, Inge, Clete Thomas, Brent Clevlin, and Marcus Thames better options than Jacque Jones?
