is it possible they wanted to make them at least visually similar but not quite as accurate for comfort reasons?

'06 it was, out in Seattle. Although I like the '70s/'80s roadies better, the '68 ones were half bad.

Im always so mixed on these things.
my first new era fitted was the tiger through the D logo with the orange brim. I remember having a crappy strap back as well, but the D was colored in blue, which ive always thought looked better.
I have another mystery...that is pretty interesting, hopefully someone can shed some light on this.
I have a picture of me when I was younger, and Im watching the Tiger game with Cecil's 45 showing on the screen. But hes wearing ORANGE with navy numbers. Spring Training uni? did they ever wear bright orange?
edit: found the pic...its definately Cecil, and Toronto has a runner on first wearing 24, but its not Ricky Henderson.
heres is "dressed to the nines" from 89-99

Okay, I guess I need an education. What's the the difference? Both in a legal (copyright) sense, and in a practical (how it's used) sense.

They did wear those in one game, it was to become their Sunday Jersey like a few teams were doing at the time.
The 68 jersey is bland, the same away jersey as almost all other teams at the time including Boston.

Ok heres the pic. On the back it says 1993. We got a new TV, I have no idea why I was sleeping in the box. Can't believe I would wear something with leafs and flames logos on it...lol
Thats clearly Cecil, and some random Blue Jay wearing 24.

If you compare the throwback uniforms the Tigers wore in '06 to the genuine '68 road unis, you'll see what I mean. They were very different. Unfortunately, I can't find a picture of the uniforms the team wore in '06.

But the block letters were huge back then too?

Could it have been a Spring Training game?

Somewhat pointless side story... I wore the type of jersey from the original post to the game today, and had a few people say they liked it, asked where I got it, etc. It's odd, because I've been wearing this jersey to games for a while now, and this is the first time it's ever really drawn attention.

that was my first thought, but it looks like they are playing on astroturf?

Fascinating. This is Zapruder-film type stuff.
It's clearly Astroturf, which would rule out a Spring Training game. Scouring the web and examining the photo, it looks like #24 in this picture is Turner Ward.
So it now seems the Tigers wore a second orange alternate. Wow.

That doesn't appear to be the Skydome. I don't recall there ever being an orange/red thing on the outfield wall. Its not the ASG because it was in Baltimore that year and I doubt Turner Ward made the team (I'm not looking that up!).
Now the 1992 ASG was at San Diego. But again... I doubt Turner Ward made it. Maybe it was footage from a contest of some sort.
That picture was taken in Canada? Maybe it's Metric color.

I brought this up with a friend who was over on Saturday to watch the game. He specifically remembers being at a game against Texas where they wore the blue uniforms. He was quite bothered by it. I believe him because as I started to describe the uniform he started nodding his head, saying "I was at that game, against Texas. I hated them"
So there you have it.

I am loving the Zapruder break-down of this mystery.
Check out this link of an orange Gibson jersey for sale. I dont think there's any way they would have worn these in-game (someone would remember), but the piping on the neck and sleeves does look eerily similar...

if they were to use an alternate jersey, my vote would be the home practice jersey they used a few years back that was just like the home jersey but with the colors reversed. i always thought these were cool and wanted to get one, but never got around to it. you see them from time to time on ebay.

I was digging through a box last night and found some pictures I took in 1998 or 1999. the Tigers were wearing, what was marketed as futuristic jerseys. Supposedly what we'd expect in the year 2020 or something like that.
The sleeves were 3/4 and came to a point. The number/letter fonts also had some points to them. I will scan them tonight.

IIRC, a few teams adopted the "throw-ahead" jerseys. I seem to remember a lot of huge logos on jerseys.
EDIT: here's a few... http://www.thefanaticmagazine.com/Fe...eball_Special/

The [pictured] Detroit Tigers jersey was never worn because their second Turn Ahead the Clock game was rained out. Keeping in mind the tiny sleeves component of the “future” template, I thought the tiger stripes were a great touch – reminiscent of the Cincinnati Bengals on the gridiron. Despite the madness of the tail on the back (imagine those with names and numbers), the Tigers did reserve some tradition with the fronts of their jerseys.

yes, they did remind me of the abominations we see with the Diamondbacks, Astors, Jays, Rays.... but I think of those as softball jerseys.

I think cursive lettering looks ridiculous on a jersey.
