Yeah, this story reeks of BS, at least IMO.
Whatever, its not the end of the world, but its sad that we'll probably never see what hes truly capable of.

And I'm not sure Zumaya will ever be the same. He didn't look to be the same pitcher at the end of last season, returning from his finger surgery, and now he has had another surgery to recover from.

Zumaya was OK, but his command was off. He was hitting 99 on the gun his last apperance, so before the "box fell on his shoulder", his arm was fine.

He showed that in his rookie year.

Perhaps he thinks he was slumping last year... Did Mark Grace ever have this injury?

You are WRONG on any coverup...talked to him last night....why does everyone "ASSUME" the worst?

Not saying that it's some sort of made-up story, but it wouldn't be much of a cover-up if he went around telling people what really happened.

What was that look and that sound that Lurch made? That would be a suitable reaction by the majority of the fans.

It's not always a matter of assuming the worst, but skepticism is fine especially given the unusual circumstances of the event.
I hope Joel is telling the truth - and I have no reason to believe he isn't at this point - because using a tragedy with the magnitude of the wildfires as a cover up would be a tremendous lapse in judgement.

He was moving things out of his dad's house, not his.
I don't understand why the consiracy theories so much. It seems like something that could easily happen and the injury is exactly consistent with something falling and hitting your shoulder from above. If you're going to cover up a story I would have chosen the Guitair Hero one over this.

I'm going to side with the others that say its best to not expect Zumaya next season, and if he does come back, its a bouns.
Its unfortunate that it has happened, but in the long run this could be good for Zumaya and the Tigers. I say this in that it may force Zoom to become more of a pitcher rather than a flamethrower. If he does come back and retains much of his velocity, can we reasonably expect it to come back all at once? We saw how he struggled a bit when he came back in '06. And even if he does retain a top 90s fastball, this is the major leagues. Guys can hit high 90s fastballs if that's all that's being offered.
He's plenty young enough where he should still be viewed as a long term asset, be it with the Tigers or as a trade chip. I know the Tigers are in a win-now mode, but to rush Zoom back prematurely would be very foolish.

It was his house.
This quote was taken directly from the mlive story ( http://www.mlive.com/tigers/index.ss...rt_of_2.html):
Zumaya was hurt last Saturday, while moving boxes in his attic in San Diego. The wildfires that affected much of Southern California had come as close to two miles to his house, and he said he was preparing for a possible evacuation when a 50-pound box fell on his shoulder.

After I moved out of my parents house I still sometimes referred to it as my house. Seeing as I lived there since I was 3 1/2. Maybe he has another place with his girlfriend/fiance but said "my house" to a reporter.

Richard and Joel -- to my knowledge -- both still live with their parents in the offseason. So whether it is referred to as his house, or his father's house....its the same place.

Well, even if they didn't, isn't it a little much to expect them to flatly tell thier father "no" if pops did call and ask for something to be pulled down from the attic? We don't know all of the circumstances. Perhaps it was just a precautionary move in the even that the wildfires started up again?
Flukey crap happens. I thought we learned that last October?

I thought I saw some articles that said it was his parents house, but I was wrong it just says he was helping out his parents. Maybe they all live in the same house?
"If this means that when it's time to help his parents move boxes, he checks three times to make sure nothing will fall on him, then that's what it means."

This one seems consistent with that too
http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/a...711020421/1050
"Zumaya's father, Joel Sr., had been hobbled by a broken right leg, so the task of retrieving possessions from the attic -- World Series memorabilia included -- was left to Joel, the Tigers' fire-balling right-hander, and Richard, his younger brother."

Honestly, what makes the difference? I'd like to know because it seems to be a point of contention with a few folks.

Meh, who cares how it happened or where.
It hapened. He won't be pitching for quite sometime.
I'm just concerned he won't ever be the same Zumaya. This is the shoulder here. Are the 104 MPH days done?
