Grandy on TBS
Curtis will be part of TBS' postseason analyst team for the ALDS on Friday's doubleheader for the network. He may stay for Monday's coverage as well.

That's awesome. I'm looking forward to see how he sounds in that role. I believe he'll be a good fit.

I had a hunch this would happen. Seems like a perfect fit.

Curtis has a face made for TV, not radio.

Good. Then he can replace Rod Allen.

I remember when they kept touting A-Rod into that role and it failed miserably. Granderson should do well.
That said, could TBS have found two more milquetoast announcers for last night's game? It was like have Mario Impemba doing pbp and analysis.

Of all the ballplayers I've seen on TV, Granderson is definitely more intelligent, than many of those yayhoos combined !!

Yeah, do you find him attractive or something? Not that there's anything wrong with that of course.
In all seriousness though, I think this is a perfect role for Granderson. Like everyone else, I wish I could be watching him on the field this post season, but I think seeing him in the booth is the next best thing. I will be sure to not miss Friday's telecasts.

It's not the announcers, it's TBS. They direct them to not get too excited. Seriously.
Imagine a walk off clinching HR. "Fly ball to left field. It's a home run. And the (team) wins the series."

I don't know why announcers can't get excited. Sounds dumb. "GIANTS WIN THE PENNANT!" and "I DON'T BELIEVE WHAT I JUST SAW" are much better than "Groundball to Polanco...Tigers in 4!"

If he wants to, he definitely could. Personally I think he's above that. He'll retire and become a businessman of some sort. Maybe become a GM or team president or something. He's way too smart to be broadcasting baseball games, IMO.

This is the one thing I do like about Rod Allen. He doesn't hold back when he's excited.

But in those two examples you are comparing walk off HR's to the inevitable. Lewin was excited. He said "Ground ball to second base. Listen to the roar! Tigers in 4!"

Since when are play-by-play & color guys all stupid or of average intelligence? Had I known this, I would have chosen a different major and possible future job.

Granderson has a degree in marketing and business administration, or something along those lines. He also is well-spoken and seems pretty bright. It's not that announcers are dumb, but it seems like the sky's the limit with a guy like Curtis.

No need to take it personal...
For common folk like us, yes you're doing it the right way. That would be an awesome job. It takes a degree like that to break in. But for athletes with millions of dollars already, well those guys just don't go into broadcasting that often. Especially those with business degrees and the intelligence that Curtis has. It's a step down for a baseball player, IMO. It's not a step down for people like us... that would be a dream job for someone who isn't a professional athlete. I don't know why you're so offended by the statement...

He can't be any worse than that dude who use to play for the A's. His name escapes me right now. Eric something, maybe? A 3B most of his career. Damn, what IS his name??

Sorry Yoda, just the way I read it really rubbed me the wrong way. I honestly believe Curtis would be a good fit in the booth if he wants to stay close to the game. It's an excellent opportunity for some players who love the game so much that they don't want to get away from it. Yet, it doesn't require the stresses of being a manager or executive. Otherwise, I'd agree wholeheartedly that he could move onto almost any field he desired. He's one of the most well-rounded athletes I've ever seen.
As for myself, I'm not sold on the idea of PBP or anything particular yet. As long as I'm working in around baseball or another sport that I actually enjoy, I'm keeping my options open. I will say that PBP is one of the most difficult things I've ever done, especially when you do it solo. I have more respect for guys like Vin Scully than I ever thought possible.

Granderson's an articulate guy. I think he will do well in this role. He very well could have a career in broadcasting after his playing career is over.

I think you mean Eric Karros, a former first baseman for a few teams including the A's. He is a horrible color analyst.

It's probably Byrnes. His hyperactive act wears thin quickly. I think he's funny when he appears on Rome but he's annoying on television.

Yes on Byrnes. That is the one I was thinking of. How did that dude get that gig? He's awful at it. He must have something on his boss there that forced them to give him the job. Something like a gay sex thing in a public restroom, ala Larry Craig.

John (or anybody else), are players compensated for appearing on TV and doing analysis, or do they just volunteer for it? Just curious.

Gotta be compensated. I can't imagine anyone doing it gratis.
