I can't make it to Detroit for the pick up. I've got a friend who does business there on Tuesday and Thursday and is going to pick it up for me. I can't wait!

A friend of mine got his...
auction stuff this morning and met Dan in person. He bought the home team valuables locker, a turn stile and a sign. Dropped about $1,000, he is a real fan for sure.
Still waiting for notifcation on my seats also...

I think I found a winner.

Once I finally get the frame cleaned up, a couple coats of this should really make these babies pop.

Mine arrived today!! Can't wait to see them when I get home. I talked to my fiancee a couple times today (she works from home) and she didn't say a thing. I happened to check the online tracking and saw they were delivered this morning.

One of the "Programs" signs. My brother came and met me at work and we went down together. It was pretty odd being there, but definitely fun.
We went in a side parking lot and walked up to an open gate in centerfield. You could see out to the field and while we were waiting we asked the security guy if we could go down to the field. We were allowed to walk up to the grass, basically on the centerfield warning track. Took a few pictures, grabbed some dirt, got my sign and went home.
Definitely a cool experience. If you get a chance, don't send someone to pick your stuff up, it is worth the drive.

Bummer! You are making me VERY disappointed that I can't go get it myself! I hope my buddy's friend who is going for me appreciates the experience!

There was this BIG box...
in the driveway when I got home from work. No email, just the box. Seats are in very good condition, aisle seat and row 13 imagine that, very fitting for the Reaper family. I have pics, not sure how to post them.
Good luck to the rest of you

I was very impressed at the condition of mine. Got seats 17 & 18 so I have to remove two extra seat levers. There are some rust spots on the frame, but other than that everything looks good. By time I got home and finished some yard work it was getting dark, but under the garage lights it looks like there isn't any green paint from *61. Other than the dirt/dust on the seats there doesn't appear to be any other imperfections. All the bolts on the seats are intact, unlike some of the early problems.
Thanks to Dan for all the information and keeping us up-to-date. Now, anybody out there win an Exit sign with a right arrow they're looking to sell? :)

After this semester is over, I think I'll take my seats home to Dearborn and make it a project of mine to refurbish the frame by scrubbing/sanding down the frame and repainting it. It's probable that I'll end up doing that if I can't get rid of all the "Crystallization" on the bottom of the steel frames. There is more than I initially thought after I took out the plastic parts of the seating set and examined the frame more closely. I'll definitely try to scrub that stuff off, but I think I will probably end up repainting it.
I don't really have the tools to do that up here, but my dad does. (It will probably turn into a father and son project.)
dt, thanks for the info on that sealer. I think I'll invest in that after the frame is redone.

AP Article on Seat Sales
Here's an AP article I saw this morning regarding the sales....
Fans buy $2M worth of Tiger Stadium seats
10/23/2007, 12:58 a.m. EDT
The Associated Press
DETROIT (AP) — Fans bought 6,909 pairs of seats from the former home of the Detroit Tigers worth a total of more than $2 million.
The Detroit Free Press reports the city of Detroit will net about $366,000 from the sale of the Tiger Stadium seats once the cost of removal and shipping is deducted. Detroit owns the ballpark.
An equal amount will go to the companies handling the sale.
An online auction of stadium memorabilia has raised $192,729. That raises the city's total to about $559,000.
The city plans to use proceeds from the auction to defray the costs of demolition. Tiger Stadium has been empty since Detroit Tigers owner Mike Ilitch moved the ballclub to Comerica Park in 2000

Hey Dan...I read this in the Detriot News today...
But many collector items remain for sale, including seat backs, signs, newspapers and bricks. Those who want to buy leftover items can stop by the stadium near Gate 8 and make an offer.
Hey Dan, could you elaborate on location and hours ?
Thanks again, my seats are great.

Bricks - COA
Dan -
Is there any way to order bricks from the stadium if you aren't able to stop by?
Also, there was no COA with my seats. Will that be coming separetly?
Thanks!

I'm not really sure. For the plastic I've been using a scratch remover and armor all, with modest success.

Dan mentioned that COA for seats would arrive in a couple of weeks, due to seats shipping out earlier than initial plans called for.

Got the shipping notice today and 2 hours later the seats arrived. I'm glad I was home as the box weighed as much as the UPS guy. Seats 22 and 23 look good, taking tomorrow night off to start cleaning!

Same story for me on the shipping notice. Got the e-mail this morning and a few short hours later, seats 7 and 8 arrived. The UPS guy was worried because the box was damaged and he and his boss thought it was a TV, so he was relieved to learn what was actually in the box. And it doesn't appear that there was any damage to the seats during the shipping process, even though the box wasn't in great shape.
Anyway, the seats are filthy, and have a fair amount of green paint on the metal, but other than that they look great.
Can't wait to clean them up.
Go Tigers!

Ordered my can of Permalac today. Little pricey at $24 (with shipping) but this stuff seems to get high marks from everyone who has used it.

Wouldn't the cup holders attach to the back of the seats in front of them? How do you plan on making that work?

yeah they'll attach to the backs. I was thinking more along the lines of original authenticity than functionality. I don't plan on sitting in them all that often.

I'm hoping to have everything done in a couple weeks' time. Plenty of cleaning and lacquering to do between now and then.
I'll be posting pictures.

If memory serves...
there are holes just under the arc of the armrest, you could with little work make them fit there. That is my plan to have beer holders on my seats my Halloween.

Quick question.
Will the COA's have the location (section and row) of our seats?

Just a hunch, but I don't think Dan is checking the site during business hours. He might not get back to you until late tonight or tomorrow morning.
I'm sure he has no Internet access at the old stadium. The place hardly had access to the Internet back in 1999!

The size is about 3 1/2' wide x 3' high. That's a guess. I will have to measure them and get you those.
There will be a little work to get them apart but i have seen people do it in the past

dt, I'm gonna follow your approach on the seats. Thanks for all your input on how to clean them and whatnot! I had all but decided to repaint the steel, but I don't like how "new" they'd look. I started scrubbing off some of the green with a simple combo of a dish sponge and some dishwashing detergent, and I'm pretty impressed with how much green paint has come off! When you're done using that spray, I'll judge if I should use that or not.
I also decided to replace the bolts that hold the seats to the frame. Two pairs were pretty rusty, and the other bolt was bent to hell once I took out the extra seat holder brace-thing. I couldn't find the right size at ACO or Meijer, though. Guess I'll have to check Home Depot.

Cool.
I've switched to a plastic brush with the frames and it seems to be working just as good as the steel wire brush without being so abrasive.
