Is Dmitri Young's career over?
Or will someone sign him? What do you think?

Nonroster invite to spring training somewhere would be my guess.

if you had told me a couple years ago that it would be Dimitri's off-field behavior that would push him out of the game rather than decreased production due to his lack of conditioning, i would have never believed it.
but NRI seems about right to me.Evil

I think it was a good combination of both.

I think someone will give him a major league deal. He still has a couple more good years in him IF he gets his act together. Someone will give him around the league minimum.

Well, they already have enough troubles with Delmon, I don't think they would want to bring in his brother who has had his own problems to mentor him.

Somebody will take a peak - If DY shows up to Spring Training in any way out of shape, I think he'd get cut in a heartbeat.

I can see somebody risking a Frank Thomas/Oakland kind of deal, where the club signs him for a six figures and hopes he can find the stroke.

I just hope the guy gets his life under control. Seems that there is a really good guy in there somewhere but he can't seem to keep the demons out.

Watching Dmitri a couple years back...
I saw him at a game at Anaheim. I got there early to watch BP and Dmitri was the only guy on the club hustling to his capability. He was encouraging of others taking BP. At the end of his final swing each time thru the cage he ran full speed to first base. Then he timed breaking for 2nd base with each BP pitch thrown to the next batter. Then he went to the OF and ran wind sprints.
Meantime, no other Tiger did these things.
I sat next to a guy who was a war buddy of Dmitri and Delmon's father - who said that their dad really instilled a great work ethic into both boys. It was very insightful to hear these stories told, and to watch what I was seeing on the field.
Very, very hard to make sense of what he's done with himself. I wish him all the best - and hope he turns things around a full 180 degrees.
Surely - someone will give him a look this spring.

I think he'll get a major league contract with a lot of incentives in it. I could see the Twins giving him a shot. If he didn't work out, the base salary would be low and he could just be cut.
I wish him luck.

It depends...he should play some winter ball in Venezuela or someplace. If he shows that he still has some bat speed against Caracas or Aragua, he might get a major league deal.
Failing that, I would go the Independent route and hope to show well enough there to get an early season call. Taking a non roster slot would perhaps limit his options a bit...

My money says he retires outright by March.

If I had my way, Young would be a Twin right now.
Sadly, Terry Ryan has no interest.

If he would have stayed healthy off the field he likely would have gotten a 5 year 65 million dollar deal with the way this offseason has been.

I'm guessing that DY was coming back from an injury. That's the only time a player will bat and then run to 1st stop and then run to 2nd. There was probably a trainer standing at or near 1st base timing him to see if his speed was close to normal. Teams do this to make sure a player is ready to return from the DL. That's why you wouldn't have seen any other Tiger doing this.
