The importance of scoring runs
I know piching and defense are the only things that matter in baseball, and that's why gettng guys like Vina and Guillen and Pudge was so important, but just looking at our first six games last year:
2003
RS: 4
RA: 36
Record: 0-6
2004
RS: 41
RA: 27
So we've allowed 9 less runs, and scored 37 more this year. Ten times as many runs scored in the first six games. That's pretty impressive.
If we average more than 6 runs per game for the rest of year we will win the division (I know that's going way out on a limb
)
Slowsilver: They did a study at Baseball Prospectus and found out that bionic parts increase WARP23 by 6.7% on average. Back in the steroid era, steroids only increased WARP23 by 4.6%

The Tigers have also done this against some quality pitching, from Toronto and Minnesota's best pitchers. Those two teams are considered legitimate playoff contenders.

That's what gets me excited about this team. It's not like we're beating Cleveland!!

While pitching and defense can help keep the other off the scoreboard...
I've always thought that scoring runs was more important.
A HUGE DIFFERENCE THIS YEAR.
Also, what I really like so far...is that The Tigers never seem to be out of a game---even down 6 runs!

It's also important to point out how the Tigers are scoring their runs, and it isn't a fluke. They're working the counts, getting walks, getting on base, and hitting the ball out of the park. I expect this will only get better.

I'd expect it will get at least slightly worse, only because I don't think we'll score 1100+ runs this year, but I do like the approach just about everyone on the team has shown thus far.

It could be a fluke in the sense that it is only 6 games into the season. We will see where the numbers are at after around 35 games into the season.Originally posted by cruzer1
