AUGUST, 2012 SUCCESSES
HOWARD JOHNSON ("HoJo") signed four of my items tonight at the WhiteCap gme, with the help of a friend. Included were his bobblehead that the WhiteCaps gave away, plus 3 Tiger books, including 2 that were written about the '84 team that were previously signed by many members of that team.

Yesterday got Doug Fister back after about a month wait. I got his 2012 Bowman, so now I have a Tigers card instead of the Mariners card I got signed TTM before the trade.
Thanks, Zack the Detroit Tigers collector

Got Prince & Calvin in the same week, well like 3-4 days. Met Calvin at training camp, but didn't realize my paint pens were dry as hell, and those pictures got ruined so i threw them away. Went to the Chaotic Coach's kickoff yesterday and was able to make up for it! Met Prince at a charity event in Birmingham. All 3 are 16x20's

Nice to see some Fister returns which I believe are the first I've seen reported all year. I sent in ST - hopefully he signed them all in the same batch.

I rarely go to MLB games, but when I do, I only get baseballs signed by players who are worthy of it. So, it's usually quality over quantity for me.
Yankees @ Tigers--8.7.12-- Inside after Yankees BP
Mark Teixeira: 1/1 SS OMLB, came right over before he hit.. very nice.
Andrew Jones: 1/1 SP OMLB... not really happy about this one, thought he would SS and apparently didn't hear me say to SS.. oh well.
Alex Rodriguez: 1/1 2010 ASB... signed a good 50, ran with a black sharpie but someone before me asked him to switch to a blue pen right before he signed mine
Pretty happy with the A-Rod.. Probably the best athlete who I got IP.

'68 Tiger WAYNE COMER - Signed his only 2 regular issue cards TTM, both Topps cards showing him as a Seattle Pilot. He led the Tigers in batting during the '68 World Series (OK, he got a single in his only at bat!).
Got shut out today at the ballpark, primarily due to the rain which almost eliminated players going out unto the field before the game.

Going through myy late son's collection of signed balls, I found an Alan Tammell from 1999. Just below his name is James Wood. Could someone tell me what he would have been doing in 1999?

The above question was prompted by having to clear a closet where we had some water damage. Most of the baseball memorabilia is from the 1997-2002 frame. Nice seeing some bats from Nook Logan, Matt Boone and Neil Jenkins. A lot of minor leaguers who never advanced past AA. Ryan Grimmett, Dayle Campbell, Bryce Friore, Ryan Earl, the infamous Malik Bass, Randy Leek and somehow, a Dominican League ball in the bunch. I haven't even opened the box of cards yet. I still have a laundry basket of wet balls with signatures. Those which are not destroyed, I'll freeze for a few months to pull out the moisture.

I just got the following cards of former Tigers from my Colorado trading partner:
Jarrod Washburn (but would still like him on his Tiger card)
Urbano Lugo (don't think he has a Tiger card)
George Cappuzzello (but prefer Tiger card)
Dennis Kinney (don't think he has a Tiger card)
Tony Bernazard (again, prefer Tiger card)
Jeff Baker (2 cards)- "the newest Tiger"
Mark DeJohn (don't think he has a Tiger card)
Chris Zachary (d) - small photo (prefer Tiger card)
Also received the Rusty Staub Tigers card from a paid signing.
Of all the living Tigers I believe that I now have only 24 autographs to go. They are: Sheldon Burnside, Jim Crawford, Bill Denehy (have on a 3 x 5 index, but want him on a card), Fritz Fisher, Dan Gonzales, Julio Gonzalez, Oscar Henrique, Fernando Hernandez, Art James, Jason Jiminez, Rod Lindsey, Carl Linhart, Mike Marshall, Phil Meeler, Ed Miller, Manny Montejo, Ramon Pena, Jim Ray, Wayne Redmond, Duane Singleton, Bob Stoddard, Jim Weaver, Ron Woods, and John Young. Can anybody help me out with autos or information regarding any of these players? If you want to trade I have a very extensive list of autographs of Tigers and non-Tigers, including deceased Tigers.
In the future I will post my needs in the Detroit Tigers Autographs category under the thread "Tiger Autos Wanted" for the Tigers that I am missing. Always willing to trade with responsible Tiger fans!
I will ask Mark to post photos of these difficult to get Tigers. More important, THANK YOU Michael, for all your help. Hope you like the "stuff" I am sending you.

Dave, for what it's worth, Ramon Pena is the Director of Latin American Operations for the Cleveland Indians. I've tried him twice in recent years TTM during Spring Training with no reply. I haven't tried locating an in-season mailing address wherever their Latin American base facility is (if they have one), but that might be worth a shot.
He was also a long time Tigers scout and his signings included Santiago, Infante and some other familiar names according to the 2nd link below.

The Exavier Logan was a reminder of the kid who walked into IL one day not knowing anyone (had a college friend with him). My son was about 11 at the time and asked him if he was a player. He introduced himself and my son escorted him inside the dugout fence to introduce him to his new coach. Suddenly he was Nook and a long Chuck Norris-like thread became a season long fun event here. Finally I printed all the comments and had it posted in his clubhouse causing tremendous embarassment and fun. Must have been 30 pages or so.

Alan,
That is a great program, signed by all three WhiteCaps. I would say that you have the only one in existence!

I am a big fan of baseball books and specifically Tiger books, so I was very pleased to get these books signed by ELROY FACE at the last "Tiger Friday" for the West Michigan WhiteCaps:
My "Sock It To 'Em" '68 Tiger book, which is now signed by every living '68 Tiger but Rooker, Lolich, Green, Cain, Ribant, and Campbell. The latter two will sign it at the upcoming Redford shows. This is my last '68 project, which began in 2008!
My "The Detroit Tigers" book (Volume 4), now signed by 49 Tigers over their photo. Previously Face signed the other Volumes.
Six other books, including four where he is pictured in the '68 Team photo.
My '68 Tiger yearbook.
June 24, 1963 Sports Illustrated where his pitching motion is featured on the cover. He signed his name along with "18-1, 1959" and ".947." The latter presents a major league record for a single season winning percentage for pitchers (15 wins minimum). The signficance of this mark is shown by the fact that only three other MLB pitchers since 1901 have exceeded .900 winning percentage (15 wins min.), but none have exceeded .947.
Also got 5 items (2 photos, 3 cards) signed for my friend. It took the help of two other people to get all these items signed.
Obviously Face was not that busy. In fact, he stopped signing 20 minutes early.
