What Weber did was done with the clear intent to injure. And it was a head hit. Slamming his head into the glass with his hand IMO is way worse than an open ice hit where the head is hit. In the open ice hit the intention isnt always clear that the head was the target, here there is no doubt. This play deserves a minimum of 2 games. It was one of the dirtiest plays Ive ever seen in a hockey game.
The officiating tonight wasnt even HS level. It was inept. The hit from behind should have been 5 and a game. Phantom penalties called all over the ice. Webers hit should have been 5 and a game.
The Wings play with zero aggression. I dont mean physical aggression as in hits. They are slow to loose pucks. They are generally slow everywhere on the ice. They play with trepidation. This team is just plain bad right now.Floooorida? But thats Americas wang.---Homer Simpson

I missed the Gaustad slash to the back of Datsyuk's leg while Weber was auditioning for the WWE. What a bunch of chicken #*$^ players.

At first I thought for sure there'd be a suspension, but with Trotz cleverly muddying the waters by saying Zetterberg started it by pinning Weber's knee, in contrast to Babcock's post-game silence on the matter, the league has an out.

Bingo on the first three sentences. I don't think I agree with the final sentence because losing a tight road game by a goal to a team favored by many to go far in these playoffs and outshooting them isn't a bad performance. But certainly not the Wings of old that had clearly superior talent and could only be defeated by luck or effort levels.

Not a wings fan, obviously, but I watched the entire game last night. So here is my perspective, caution this is coming from a leafs fan.
I thought the Wings were clearly the better team on the ice last night. So many bounces went the Preds way, especially on their 2nd goal. The wings had like 3 pucks that scooted right near the goal line that just wouldn't go into the net. The wings lack of speed wasn't too much of an issue because they control the puck much better than the Preds.
The officiating was god awful, both ways. I think the league should be slightly embarrassed with how poorly that game was officiated, the Hudler diving call really sticks out in my mind. Compare that with the Pens game where there were 8 mins in penalties.
I think this will be a 6 or 7 game series with the Wings coming out on top.

Thought the same thing...Nothing I saw in this game discouraged me in the least...Doesn't mean they'll win the series, but the Wings could have easily won the game comfortably...I felt like shooting more and passing less would have been nice and more effective in the faceoff circle, but overall, not a bad effort and I think if they play this way in Game 2, they have a decent chance...

There was a hit to the head in the LA/Vancouver game...I think it was Kyle Clifford that got hit...It's hard to imagine that wouldn't get a suspension. I can't see Shanahan giving one a suspension and not the other. But stranger things have happened. I think Zetterberg needs to sit out practice with "concussion like symptoms". Seems like the resulting injury effects what happens.

HA! Knew it, no suspension for Weber, just fined $2,500.

Lame. That deserved at least a game.
I do feel like the Wings dominated the last two periods but the Predators got two fluky "playoff" goals. Wings often seem to start playoff games and series playing too European. Then they start to feel the pressure and throw pucks at the net. I'd like to see that from the opening face off.

Zetterberg should have acted like a soccer player I guess.
Every time you play a hand of you poker you wanna run through a mental check list. Head Position Hand Position Neck Position Breathing Posture. More than 25 items. It's a lot. And that why I've come up with a handy mnemonic device. Just one word: HPHPNPBPECMSPAMDCPAFTSTTL. It's easy.

T&P, What was your view on the Weber/Zetterberg issue at the end of the game?

So based on the transitive property, Todd Bertuzzi could go all Todd Bertuzzi on Weber and cheap-shot him from behind in the side of the head for the low low price of $5,000? Seems worth it at this point.

Busch league by Weber. Based on how Shanny has called everything else, it should have been a 1 game suspension 2 at most but for sure at least 1.
Although I have found Shanny to be rather inconsistent with his calls, I feel like he has a pinwheel that he spins and then throws a dart at.

I would have liked to have seen the Red Wing players respond better after the whistle. Maybe they did and I didn't see it, but to see Zetterberg on one knee dazed and gasping on his own was a sad sight. And Babcock in the post-game should've stood up on this issue. I understand taking the high road, but sometimes that comes off as weak not noble. Didn't do the Wings any favors.

Not surprised he didn't get suspended. Should have been but the NHL almost always turns the other way on things like this in the playoffs.
Wings were the better team last night and need to come out and play the same way tomorrow night.2013 AAT: SS Jhonny Peralta

No surprise, but Babcock says that Gustav Nyquist will be slotted in the lineup for Helm.
